Position Overview

We are seeking a Medical Assistant for a hospital assignment in New York, NY.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • New York State Medical Assistant Certification

Responsibilities

  • Assist with patient care, including venipuncture, EKGs, vital signs, specimen collection, point-of-care testing, and patient preparation.

  • Assist physicians with examinations and procedures.

  • Accompany and assist patients with walking, transferring, dressing, and other needs.

  • Check schedules and help coordinate patient flow.

  • Communicate instructions and information to patients and families.

  • Answer calls and provide pertinent information.

  • Maintain and update electronic and/or paper medical records.

  • Obtain laboratory, X-ray, hospital, referral, and other medical records as needed.

  • Enter orders into the EMR and prepare prescription refill requests for physician review and approval.

  • Inventory, order, and restock medical supplies.

  • Prepare examination rooms and instruments according to sterilization and infection-control procedures.

  • Maintain required logs for medications, point-of-care testing, sterilization, crash carts, and other clinical processes.

  • Check expiration dates on medications and medical supplies and dispose of items according to policy.

  • Follow workplace safety procedures and applicable healthcare regulations.

  • Use required personal protective equipment when handling blood, bodily fluids, chemicals, radiation, and other hazards.

  • Assist with medical chart maintenance and filing.

  • Schedule surgeries and procedures when required, including coordinating times and preparing charts, pre-admission documents, and consent forms.

  • Perform phlebotomy duties as required.

  • Schedule and register patient appointments.

  • Update patient demographic and insurance information.

  • Maintain, adjust, and confirm patient schedules.

  • Verify insurance information and assist with pre-certification for procedures.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
