Job Title: Medical Assistant
Location: NYC, NY
Duration: 3 months Contract
Schedule: M-F 930AM - 530PM
Hourly rate: $21/ hour on W2 Negotiable
Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform patient care duties, including venipuncture, EKGs, vital signs, specimen collection and processing, and point-of-care testing.
  • Review patient schedules and coordinate patient flow.
  • Escort patients to examination and procedure rooms and assist with walking, transferring, and dressing as needed.
  • Prepare examination rooms and assist physicians with medical procedures.
  • Communicate instructions to patients and families, answer telephone calls, and provide relevant information.
  • Manage patient medical records, including receiving and sending records, obtaining lab and X-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information.
  • Complete medical forms, requisitions, and documentation, ensuring patient charts are accurate, complete, and properly filed.
  • Enter orders into the electronic medical record (EMR) system and prepare prescription refill requests for physician review and approval.
  • Maintain, organize, and restock medical supplies as needed.
  • Prepare examination rooms and medical instruments according to sterilization and infection control policies.
  • Maintain required logs for medication refrigeration, point-of-care testing, sterilization processes, crash carts, and other clinical equipment.
  • Monitor medication and medical supply expiration dates and dispose of expired items according to institutional policies.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following established safety standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling blood, bodily fluids, disinfectants, radiation, and other hazardous materials.
  • Maintain medical charts, including operative reports, test results, and home care forms.

  • Perform phlebotomy duties as required.
  • Schedule appointments, register patients, and update demographic and insurance information.
  • Maintain, adjust, and confirm patient appointment schedules.
  • Verify and update insurance information using internal systems and online resources.
  • Perform insurance pre-certification for procedures as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients from diverse cultural and language backgrounds.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent telephone etiquette and customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and HIPAA privacy guidelines.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical record (EMR) systems and medical billing systems preferred.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing and growing healthcare environment.
  • Knowledge of patient care procedures, infection control, and clinical safety practices.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
  • Work environment: General office and clinical setting.
  • Physical activity level: Light.
  • Ability to assist patients with mobility and positioning as needed.
  • Ability to handle routine clinical tasks and medical supplies while following safety protocols.
