THIS POSITION IS LOCATED IN KNOXVILLE, TN

The Medical Administrative Assistant 1 obtains referrals to University of Tennessee and outside specialists for the patients of the University of Tennessee Internal Medicine Center within the guidelines of the patient''s insurance company''s specifications and requirements.

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: Six (6) months of work experience in a medical office setting. (Ability to fluently speak Spanish is preferred).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of different insurance companies.

  • Ability to maintain constant contact with the patient''s primary insurance carrier to adhere to said insurance carrier''s policies, procedures, and protocols.

  • Excellent communication skills to talk to different offices.

  • Obtains and schedules the patient''s appointment with the specialist per the Internal Medicine physician's request, reviews insurance eligibility, as needed.

  • Verify patient''s insurance coverage and ensures adherence to insurance company policies for referral to a specialist.

  • Updates and maintains accurate EMR records.

  • Verifies and confirms the patient''s eligibility.

  • Schedules appointments and assists nurses by answering phone calls from physician''s offices and patients.

  • Communicates changes in referral policies of various insurance companies to nursing and MD staff as they occur.

  • Obtains and faxes records to specialists as needed.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Obtains and schedules the patient''s appointment with the specialist per the Internal Medicine physician's request, reviews insurance eligibility, as needed.
