Mechanical Test Engineer - Development

This hands-on role partners with engineers to create and refine prototypes, develop test fixtures and methods, execute engineering testing, maintain design documentation, and provide practical feedback on manufacturability, fit, function, tolerancing, and design robustness. Associate degree, technical diploma, or certificate in mechanical engineering technology, manufacturing engineering technology, electromechanical technology, machining, or a related technical discipline; equivalent practical experience may be considered.

The Test Engineer Development - Mechanical supports R&D activities for capital equipment, instruments, disposables, and related medical-device subsystems. This hands-on role partners with engineers to create and refine prototypes, develop test fixtures and methods, execute engineering testing, maintain design documentation, and provide practical feedback on manufacturability, fit, function, tolerancing, and design robustness.

• Create, build, modify, troubleshoot, and test mechanical and electromechanical prototypes, assemblies, fixtures, and subsystems in support of product development.
• 
  
• Support mechanical design iteration through prototype fabrication, assembly, fit checks, tolerance evaluation, design-for-manufacturability feedback, and structured troubleshooting.
• 
  
• Design and construct engineering test fixtures and development tooling using machining, additive manufacturing, hand fabrication, and commercially available components as appropriate.
• 
  
• Set up and execute engineering tests for design characterization, design verification, reliability, and process validation; accurately collect and document test data and observations.
• 
  
• Assist engineers with development and improvement of test methods, including fixture definition, equipment selection, method repeatability, and clear acceptance criteria.
• 
  
• Read, interpret, and provide practical feedback on mechanical drawings, CAD models, specifications, tolerances, GD&T, and bills of material.
• 
  
• Support creation, revision, and release of engineering documentation including drawings, test methods, protocols, reports, work instructions, and design records.
• 
  
• Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain R&D laboratory equipment, measurement tools, prototype fabrication equipment, and test systems; help maintain an organized and compliant engineering lab.
• 
  
• Perform dimensional and functional inspection of prototype components using appropriate metrology tools; clearly communicate deviations, anomalies, and opportunities for design improvement.
• 
  
• Coordinate prototype builds, test setups, equipment availability, and test execution to support project schedules and engineering priorities.
• 
  
• Work cross-functionally with Systems, Electrical, Software, Disposables, Operations, Quality, and suppliers to resolve technical issues and support product-development deliverables.

• Follow approved procedures, protocols, good documentation practices, and applicable quality-system requirements.

Education:

Your Background

• 
  
• Associate degree, technical diploma, or certificate in mechanical engineering technology, manufacturing engineering technology, electromechanical technology, machining, or a related technical discipline; equivalent practical experience may be considered.
• 
  
• 3+ years of relevant experience as an engineering technician, mechanical technician, prototype technician, or equivalent hands-on technical role preferred.
• 
  
• Experience in medical devices or another regulated industry with exposure to GMP, ISO, FDA, or comparable quality-system requirements is preferred.
• 
  
  

Preferred

• 
  
• Experience supporting medical-device R&D, new product development, design verification, and/or reliability testing.
• 
  
• Experience with SolidWorks, GD&T, tolerance stack-up concepts, prototype machining, additive manufacturing, and mechanical test equipment.
• 
  
• Experience creating or improving engineering fixtures, test methods, and prototype build processes.
