Mechanical Reliability Technician — Manufacturing
Employer: PPG, Greensboro, NC
Hourly Range: $26–$35 (dependent on experience and skills)
Hours: 1st Shift, Mon–Thu, 5:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.; overtime flexibility during the week and weekends to support production.
Role focus
Guard uptime, extend asset life, and elevate safety. You’ll be the go-to expert for diagnosing faults, executing PM/PdM, and ensuring repaired systems pass rigorous proof tests before returning to service.
Core accountabilities
- Install, modify, and repair plant machinery and facility systems.
- Diagnose and correct issues in complex mechanical/building systems.
- Execute preventive and predictive maintenance on: belts, piping, filters, mixers, valves, bearings, motors, gearboxes, dies, extruders, feeders, rolls, drive chains, classifiers, mills, seals, and pumps.
- Operate safely in confined spaces and at elevation (ladders, scaffolding, roofs, platforms).
- Conduct troubleshooting and proof testing to verify fixes and prevent recurrence.
- Champion 5S to drive cleanliness, efficiency, and safety.
- Identify root causes quickly, propose options, and implement sound solutions.
- Keep accurate maintenance records and reports in the CMMS.
- Interpret and work from manuals, blueprints, schematics, and CAD drawings.
- Proactively observe running equipment to catch early signs of malfunction.
- Perform basic welding and light fabrication.
Qualifications
- 7–10 years of industrial maintenance experience; chemical manufacturing preferred.
- HVAC and electrical knowledge.
- Certified Maintenance Apprenticeship or Mechanical Institute credential.
- Demonstrated pump and gearbox rebuild experience.
- Ability to read technical documents and plant CAD drawings.
- Capable of physical tasks: confined spaces, heights, lifting, and manual labor.
- Computer literate: Microsoft Word/Excel and CMMS (MicroMain, SAP, or equivalent).
- Ability to wear PPE, including a respirator.
- Strong safety and attendance record; available for overtime.
