We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Designer / Engineer with at least 5 years of mechanical design or engineering experience to support complex industrial, high-tech, semiconductor, healthcare, and other technically demanding facilities. The ideal candidate will have strong design expertise in at least two areas, including HVAC, plumbing, process piping, exhaust and ventilation, or facility utility systems.
This role involves hands-on field investigations, conceptual and detailed mechanical design, construction documentation, and coordination with project managers, engineers, contractors, vendors, and facility personnel. The successful candidate will be capable of working independently, verifying existing field conditions, and developing practical, constructable solutions for new installations, renovations, and modifications within operating facilities.
Conduct field investigations to verify existing equipment, utilities, piping, ductwork, connection points, routing constraints, and available installation space.
Review existing drawings, specifications, equipment documentation, and system diagrams to identify discrepancies and determine field verification requirements.
Develop conceptual and detailed mechanical designs for HVAC, exhaust, plumbing, process piping, facility utility systems, equipment installations, and facility modifications.
Perform system layouts and sizing for ductwork, piping, plumbing systems, equipment, and associated mechanical components.
Prepare clear, accurate construction documents that address constructability, accessibility, maintenance, installation requirements, and existing facility constraints.
Review equipment specifications and vendor information, and prepare calculations, design sketches, and drawing redlines.
Coordinate with CAD/Revit designers, multidisciplinary engineering teams, project managers, clients, facility personnel, contractors, and vendors.
Participate in site visits, client meetings, design reviews, and interdisciplinary coordination activities.
Provide construction-phase support, including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, evaluating field conditions, and implementing design revisions.
Manage multiple assignments, monitor project schedules, communicate technical issues, and take ownership of assigned work through completion.
Develop practical engineering solutions based on verified field conditions, applicable codes, industry standards, and project requirements.
Required Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years of relevant mechanical design or engineering experience.
Strong design experience in at least two of the following areas:
- HVAC systems
- Plumbing systems
- Process or industrial piping
- Exhaust and ventilation systems
- Facility or process utility systems
Experience working on complex facilities, such as healthcare facilities, hospitals, industrial plants, manufacturing facilities, laboratories, semiconductor facilities, high-tech environments, or central utility plants.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, technical specifications, equipment documentation, and mechanical system diagrams.
Working knowledge of applicable mechanical and plumbing codes, engineering standards, and industry design practices.
Willingness and ability to perform hands-on field investigations and verify existing site conditions.
Strong understanding of constructability, equipment installation, system accessibility, operation, and maintenance requirements.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently with limited day-to-day supervision.
Strong communication, coordination, problem-solving, and technical documentation skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively with project teams, clients, contractors, vendors, and facility personnel.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience using Revit and/or AutoCAD, or working effectively with CAD/Revit production teams.
Background in semiconductor or high-tech manufacturing, healthcare, hospitals, industrial facilities, laboratories, or central utility plants.
Experience with renovations, equipment installations, and mechanical modifications in occupied or operating facilities.
Familiarity with P&IDs, process piping layouts, and process or facility utility system documentation.
Experience coordinating mechanical designs with electrical, process, instrumentation and controls, structural, and other engineering disciplines.
Mechanical contracting, design-build, construction, or field-coordination experience combined with strong mechanical design capabilities.
Experience supporting projects from initial site investigation through design development and construction.
