As a Materials Development Engineer specializing in Advanced Ceramics, you will drive the development, optimization, and industrialization of high-performance ceramic materials used in next-generation energy solutions.

    Working at the intersection of materials science, manufacturing, and product development, you will lead materials innovation from concept through commercialization. You will develop advanced ceramic feedstocks, optimize manufacturing processes, execute material characterization programs, and support the transition of emerging technologies into production. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence product performance, reliability, and manufacturing excellence while collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams.

    How You'll Make an Impact

    • Develop and optimize advanced ceramic materials, feedstocks, and manufacturing processes for high-performance gas turbine components.
    • Lead materials development activities from laboratory-scale research through pilot production and manufacturing scale-up.
    • Drive process development and industrialization efforts, improving yield, dimensional accuracy, material performance, and manufacturability.
    • Optimize ceramic manufacturing processes including injection molding, slip casting, forming, debinding, and sintering.
    • Design and execute experiments (DOE) to evaluate material behavior, identify process improvements, and solve complex technical challenges.
    • Utilize material characterization techniques including optical microscopy, SEM, thermal analysis (DSC, TGA, DTA), mechanical testing, and advanced dimensional inspection methods.
    • Partner with design, manufacturing, quality, and product engineering teams to improve critical-to-quality features and support new product introduction (NPI).
    • Perform root cause investigations, implement corrective actions, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Support technology transfer, pilot builds, process validation, and commercialization activities.
    • Contribute to the development of next-generation ceramic technologies supporting reliability, efficiency, and sustainability goals.

    What You Bring

    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Ceramic Engineering, Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
    • 1-8+ years of experience in advanced ceramics, materials development, process development, manufacturing engineering, product development, or related fields. Candidates with additional experience may be considered for a higher level.
    • Hands-on experience with ceramic processing technologies such as injection molding, slip casting, feedstock development, forming, debinding, and sintering.
    • Experience supporting manufacturing scale-up, industrialization, pilot production, or commercialization of new materials or processes.
    • Knowledge of material characterization techniques including optical microscopy, SEM, thermal analysis, density and porosity measurement, and mechanical testing.
    • Familiarity with advanced inspection technologies such as CT scanning, 3D scanning, or dimensional metrology.
    • Experience applying statistical analysis, Design of Experiments (DOE), and root cause analysis methodologies.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
    • Ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, operations, manufacturing, and quality organizations.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience with high-temperature ceramics, advanced materials, energy, aerospace, defense, semiconductor, or advanced manufacturing applications.
    • Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) and technology commercialization efforts.
    • Master's or PhD in Ceramics, Materials Science, or related field.
    • Knowledge of advanced manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
