Manufacturing Engineer

The engineer will help develop manufacturing parameters and processes aimed at improving production flow, traceability, safety, and cost efficiency. Required PPE includes steel-toe boots with metatarsal protection, safety glasses, FR pants/jacket, and bump cap.

Location: Mapleton, IL Onsite
Duration: Full-Time (Permanent)
Schedule: Monday Thursday, 5:00 AM 3:00 PM (10-hour shifts)
Travel: 0 25% Domestic
Work Environment: Approximately 75% shop floor

Position Summary

We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer 2 to support the development of manufacturing processes for centrifugal casting. This role combines hands-on manufacturing work, R&D activities, and execution of Design of Experiments (DOE).

The engineer will help develop manufacturing parameters and processes aimed at improving production flow, traceability, safety, and cost efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and start up manufacturing equipment for daily operations.
• Review and document results from previous experiments.
• Execute daily DOE (Design of Experiments) activities.
• Develop and evaluate centrifugal casting processes and manufacturing parameters.
• Document process adjustments, findings, and results.
• Communicate technical needs, issues, and roadblocks with the team.
• Participate in weekly project updates with leadership.
• Coordinate handoffs with the next shift.
• Work primarily on the manufacturing/shop floor.

Required Qualifications

• 2 4 years of industrial/manufacturing experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering required.
  • Associate's degree may be accepted with 4+ years of experience.
  • Master's degree may be considered with a minimum of 2 years of experience.
• Familiarity with foundry processes.
• Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Understanding of manufacturing safety.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Comfortable working in a hands-on manufacturing environment.
• Self-starter who can work independently.

Preferred Skills

• Power BI
• Microsoft PowerApps
• Familiarity with machining processes
• Experience with DOE / experimental manufacturing activities

Work Environment

• Approximately 75% shop-floor work.
• Caterpillar will provide required work assets.
• Required PPE includes steel-toe boots with metatarsal protection, safety glasses, FR pants/jacket, and bump cap.
• Ability to lift 35 lbs. is required.
