Approximately 90% of our practice involves bankruptcy, with matters spanning Chapters 7, 11, and 12, alongside commercial and agricultural legal work.
Demand for our services currently exceeds our capacity. We are seeking a Managing Attorney to succeed our founder in day-to-day practice leadership as he transitions into a mentorship role. Job DetailsResponsibilities
- Assume day-to-day practice leadership as the founder steps back from active practice.
- Maintain an active bankruptcy and debt restructuring practice serving farmers and businesses.
- Supervise attorneys and support staff, review work product, and oversee case strategy, deadlines, and service quality.
- Evaluate clients’ financial, legal, and tax circumstances and develop practical restructuring or liquidation strategies.
- Handle creditor negotiations, debt workouts, plan development, contested matters, and court appearances.
- Draft and review petitions, schedules, motions, pleadings, discovery, and other case documents.
- Address lien priority, secured debt, claims, leases, contracts, and adversary proceedings.
- Conduct prospective-client consultations and explain available strategies and the firm’s services.
- Collaborate with operations leadership on staffing, training, performance reviews, and workflow improvements.
- Support adoption of upgraded technology and identify opportunities for practice growth.
Qualifications
- JD from an accredited law school.
- Iowa licensure or ability to obtain Iowa licensure within a reasonably short period; Illinois-licensed attorneys are also encouraged to apply.
- Substantial bankruptcy and debt restructuring experience with increasing professional responsibility.
- Ideally, confirmation of at least five Chapter 11 or Chapter 12 plans, or equivalent creditor-side experience.
- Ability to lead complex matters and guide attorneys and staff.
- Strong negotiation, writing, courtroom, and client communication skills.
- Familiarity with commercial law, secured transactions, and tax implications for distressed businesses.
- Agricultural industry knowledge preferred.
- Estate or other complementary practice experience welcome alongside the core bankruptcy background.
- Interest in firm leadership, ownership, technology, and long-term growth.
