Mariana Minerals is a software-first, vertically integrated minerals company on a mission to supply the critical minerals powering modern energy, AI, and defense technologies. We’re reimagining the minerals supply chain by combining deep industry expertise with advanced software, automation, and data-driven decision-making.
Role Overview
We are hiring a Manager, Piping Design & Engineering to build and lead the piping discipline behind our refining and minerals processing facilities. The team, the 3D model, the design workflows, and the standards every piping deliverable comes out of.
You will own Mariana's piping design group: the designers who build the model, the stress engineers who validate it, and the staff-aug, high-value engineering center, and EPC piping teams that extend it. You own the 3D model as the source of truth, including the metadata behind it, and you develop the workflow that carries a line from P&ID to routed model to stress-checked to supported to issued for construction. You'll also set the stress criteria, own the piping material, valve, and support specifications, and pick up Caesar II or the model yourself when the work calls for it.
What You’ll Do
Lead the piping design team
Build and lead Mariana's piping design group. Hire, develop, and directly manage piping designers and stress engineers
Manage the blended delivery team. In-house, staff-augs, high-value engineering centers, and third-party engineering firm piping groups
Load-balance work across concurrent projects, hold the schedule for piping deliverables, and coach designers through the work
Attract non-conventional engineering talent to piping design and engineering positions to develop advanced automation solutions
Own the 3D model
Own 3D model development end to end in Plant 3D and Revit. Plot plan and equipment layout through routing, supports, and IFC isometrics
Own how the model is built: structure and breakdown, project setup, naming conventions, revision control, and change rights
Own the spec catalogs and component libraries inside the model, so piping specs are enforced by the model rather than caught in review
Run 30 / 60 / 90% model reviews and Navisworks clash detection across disciplines, and drive resolution to closure
Define the model, drawing, and file format requirements EPCs and vendors deliver against, and integrate their content into Mariana's environment
Keep the model the single source of truth for quantities. Isometrics, BOMs, and take-offs generated from the model, not maintained beside it
Evaluate and implement state of the art agentic engineering and automation softwares
Develop the design workflows and standards
Develop and implement the piping design workflow itself. The path from P&ID to IFC, what gets checked at each gate, and who signs it
Build the standards behind it: piping design criteria, layout and access standards, drafting standards, iso and drawing templates, and support detail libraries
Establish squad check and design checking practice, with disciplined comment resolution, revision control, and IFR / IFA / IFC issue
Automate the repetitive work with our software team. Model-to-stress data exchange, spec-driven checks, quantity reporting, and QC scripting
Own the engineering and stress scope
Own the pipe stress program. Set the criteria, decide which lines are critical, and approve every package before it drives a support or a nozzle
Direct dynamic analyses. Slug flow, water hammer, relief valve transients, and vibration
Own piping material specifications, valve specs, and engineering standards, including material selection for hydromet, pyromet, and reagent services
Design and specify pipe supports, guides, anchors, expansion joints, and specialty components, and own the support detail standards
Ensure all piping systems comply with ASME B31.3, and B31.1 where applicable
Drive piping procurement and support construction and commissioning. Bulk material strategy, long-lead valves and specialty items, field RFIs, redlines, and as-built model closeout
What You’ll Bring
10+ years in piping design and engineering, delivered in an EPC, EPCM, or owner capital projects environment
Direct experience managing a piping design department or group
Demonstrated ownership of 3D model development on a capital project, concept through IFC, including multidiscipline reviews and Navisworks clash detection
Track record building piping design workflows and standards
Strong pipe stress background in Caesar II
Depth in ASME B31.3, including allowable load definition and nozzle load evaluation
Experience developing piping material and valve specifications and pipe support design criteria
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
Preferred, but not required
Professional Engineer (PE) license, or the ability to obtain one
Mining, mineral processing, metallurgical, chemical, or heavy industrial facility experience
Slurry, reagent, and high-temperature or refractory-lined piping, including lined and non-metallic materials
Scripting or model-based automation
