Primary Responsibilities:The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the accounting department, ensuring the accuracy and timely delivery of financial reporting for Trademark Transportation. This role is accountable for the accurate tracking and reporting of operating revenues, cost of goods, and general and administrative expenses. This position will supervise and manage a team responsible for daily processing of receivables and payables. This role also leads accounting system projects and process improvements to support the organization’s financial integrity and operational goals. Essential Functions:DUTIES, TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring all financial reporting deadlines are met.
- Prepare and review accurate weekly financial reports.
- Oversee the maintenance of the general ledger and chart of accounts, ensuring proper coding and record-keeping.
- Monitor and administer daily banking and cash management activities, maintain banking relationships.
- Perform and review account reconciliations.
- Supervise and manage the functions of Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR).
- Prepare financial reports for management to aid in strategic decision-making.
- Manage, mentor, and develop a small team of accounting staff (e.g., Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processors).
- Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
- Evaluate and improve the efficiency of the accounting system and related software applications.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
- Articulate understanding of the full accounting lifecycle from order recognition to cost allocation, record keeping and reporting, and the ability to apply that understanding to the operations of an LTL transportation brokerage business.
- Working understanding of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) including intercompany transactions and eliminations.
- Proficient with using accounting software programs (e.g., QuickBooks, Workday).
- Comfortable with information systems and ability to trace financial transactions across various platforms.
- Strong analytical abilities and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing transactions, reconciliations, and reports to prevent errors.
- Strong leadership and team management skills. Ability to motivate, guide, and develop team members, while holding them accountable.
- Excellent written and verbal communication with team members, vendors, and internal stakeholders; able to explain complex accounting concepts in simple terms.
- Ability to prioritize competing tasks, meet deadlines, and manage month-end/quarter-end closing schedules.
- Work well cross functionally to resolve customer issues and streamline processes.
- Maintain confidentiality and ensures compliance with financial regulations and company policies.
- Handle disputes or discrepancies diplomatically, especially with vendors, customers, or internal teams.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or management role (transportation brokerage or logistics services preferred).
- Experience with the full cycle close process and preparing financial statements.
