    Position Summary

    The Maintenance Mechanic/Welder Supports safe, reliable, and efficient operation of a chemical batch manufacturing plant by performing mechanical maintenance, welding/fabrication, and equipment troubleshooting. Ensures compliance with safety, quality, and environmental requirements while minimizing downtime and maintaining production continuity.

     

    Key Outcomes/Responsibilities

    Outcome: Safe & Compliant Welding Execution

     

    Zero safety incidents; 100% compliance with permit-to-work and regulatory requirements.

    Actions:

     

    • Performs welding activities in accordance with ASME, AWS, and site-specific standards.
    • Follows all safety protocols including hot work permits, PPE, and confined space entry.
    • Weldscarbonsteel,stainlesssteel,andalloypipingusingSMAW,GTAW,andGMAWprocesses.
    • Conductsweldrepairsandensurescompliancewithplantweldingstandards.

     

    Outcome: High-Quality Fabrication & Repairs

     

    >95% first-pass quality rate; <5% rework due to weld defects

     

    Actions:
     

    • Fabricatesandinstalls pipespools, supports, andstructuralcomponents accordingtoP&IDs and isometricdrawings.
    • Performspipefitting,cutting,beveling,threading,andlayoutwork.
    • Fabricatesandrepairspiping,vessels,structuralsupports,andequipmentcomponentsusingappropriate welding techniques (e.g., TIG, MIG, Stick).
    • Conductsvisualanddimensionalinspectionstoverifyweldintegrityandfit-up.

     

     

    Outcome: Support for Preventive & Corrective Maintenance

     

    On-time completion of scheduled work; reduced downtime due to weld-related failures.

     

    Actions:

     

    • Executesweldingtasksaspartofplannedmaintenanceandemergencyrepairs.
    • Inspects,troubleshoots,andrepairspumps,compressors,gearboxes,valves,agitators,androtating equipment.
    • Performspreventiveandpredictivemaintenance on mechanicalsystems.
    • Installs,aligns,andrebuilds mechanicalcomponentsusingprecisiontools.

     

     

    Outcome: Documentation & Traceability

     

    100% documentation accuracy; audit-ready compliance.

    Actions:
     

    • Completesweldlogs,inspectionrecords,andjobdocumentationasbysiteprotocolsand

    regulatorystandards.

    • Documentsmaintenance workordersandequipmenthistoryin the CMMS(e.g.,SAPPM)followingsite requirements.
    • Maintainscertificationrecordsandensuresqualificationsarecurrent.

     

     

    Outcome: Continuous Improvement & Reliability Support

    Contributiontoimprovementinitiatives;reductioninrecurringfailures. Actions:

    • Identifies opportunities toimprove weldtechniques,materialselection, andfabricationmethods.
    • Participatesinrootcauseanalysis andreliabilityimprovementinitiatives.
    • Supportsequipmentchangeouts,shutdowns,andturnaroundstoimprovelong-termreliability.

     

    Outcome:EffectiveEquipment Support During Outages

     

    Timely completion ofequipment changeouts, shutdowns, and turnarounds to support production continuity.

    Actions:

    • Assistswithequipmentchangeouts,shutdowns,andturnarounds.
    • Coordinates with plannersand operations to execute work safely and efficiently while minimizing downtime.

     

    Basic Qualifications

    • Education Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent and related trade school or military training; AWS certifications in weldproficiency
    • Job Experience: 4 - 6 years
    • Technical Skills: Proficiency in TIG, MIG, Stick welding; pipe fitting; blueprint reading; weld inspection
    • Safety Knowledge: Familiarity with hot work permitting, confined space entry, and hazardous materials handling
    • Systems: Basic CMMS usage for work order documentation (e.g., SAP PM)
