    Description

    Maintenance Manager

A growing precision manufacturing operation is seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager to lead maintenance activities across its manufacturing operations. This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who understands CNC equipment, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, machine uptime, and the realities of supporting a busy production environment.

This individual will be responsible for establishing maintenance priorities, improving preventive maintenance processes, minimizing unplanned equipment downtime, and ensuring production equipment and facilities remain reliable and operational.

This is not strictly a supervisory position. The Maintenance Manager must be comfortable working directly with equipment, diagnosing problems, performing repairs, and supporting the maintenance needs of the operation while also providing leadership and structure to the maintenance function.

    Position Summary

The Maintenance Manager will oversee day-to-day maintenance activities and develop a proactive maintenance program designed to improve equipment reliability and reduce production interruptions.

A major focus of the role will be moving maintenance away from a reactive, "fix it when it breaks" environment toward a disciplined preventive maintenance approach.

The successful candidate will have direct experience maintaining manufacturing equipment, particularly CNC mills and Swiss-style lathes, and the technical ability to diagnose mechanical and equipment-related issues.

    Responsibilities

    • Lead day-to-day maintenance activities and establish workload priorities based on production needs.
    • Maintain, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair manufacturing equipment and facility systems.
    • Develop, implement, and continuously improve the preventive maintenance program.
    • Ensure scheduled preventive maintenance is completed accurately and on time.
    • Audit maintenance activities and PM procedures to ensure effectiveness and compliance.
    • Minimize unplanned machine downtime through proactive equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
    • Coordinate planned equipment downtime with production and other internal departments.
    • Track maintenance data and use it to identify recurring equipment problems and improvement opportunities.
    • Establish and maintain an appropriate inventory of critical replacement and spare parts.
    • Coordinate outside contractors and service providers when specialized maintenance support is required.
    • Develop and improve maintenance procedures and processes as needed.
    • Ensure compliance with internal maintenance and safety procedures.
    • Support customer and regulatory audits involving maintenance, equipment, or facilities.
    • Lead safety initiatives including safety committee activities and daily Gemba walks.
    • Support general facility and grounds maintenance as needed.
    • Communicate effectively with production, operations, quality, leadership, and other departments regarding equipment status and maintenance priorities.

    Qualifications

    • 5+ years of industrial/manufacturing maintenance experience.
    • Direct experience maintaining and troubleshooting CNC machining equipment.
    • Experience with Swiss-style lathes and CNC mills strongly preferred.
    • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic ability.
    • Experience developing, managing, or improving preventive maintenance programs.
    • Previous maintenance leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
    • Ability and willingness to remain hands-on with equipment maintenance and repair.
    • Experience managing spare parts and maintenance inventory is preferred.
    • Experience coordinating outside maintenance contractors and equipment service providers.
    • Strong understanding of manufacturing safety practices.
    • Ability to communicate effectively across production, operations, quality, and leadership.
    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize maintenance needs in a production environment.
    • Self-motivated with a high degree of ownership and accountability.

    Why This Opportunity

The individual hired will have the ability to directly impact machine uptime, preventive maintenance, production reliability, safety, and overall operational performance while helping build a more structured and proactive maintenance organization.
