Position Overview

The Mainframe Systems Programmer/DBA is responsible for leading and supporting complex database upgrade projects, installation, modification, testing, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of enterprise database and system software products. This role plans, installs, configures, tests, implements, and manages core database technologies that support organizational database architecture and business requirements.

Specialized titles may include, but are not limited to:

  • DB2 Systems Programmer/DBA
  • IMS Systems Programmer/DBA
  • ADABAS/NATURAL Systems Programmer/DBA

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and administer enterprise database environments, including hierarchical, relational, and file-based databases such as IMS, DB2, and ADABAS.
  • Plan, implement, and upgrade database environments according to established organizational standards.
  • Monitor database health, performance, capacity, and storage utilization.
  • Provide technical consulting and support to application development and operations teams.
  • Perform maintenance and troubleshooting of production database systems.
  • Conduct technical reviews of systems utilizing ADABAS, DB2, and IMS database management systems (DBMS).
  • Evaluate and tune database management software to optimize performance and reliability.
  • Collaborate with project teams to recommend database architectures and designs.
  • Develop logical and physical database models and create physical database environments.
  • Perform database capacity planning and forecasting.
  • Develop and maintain database backup and recovery procedures.
  • Support database replication, compression, partitioning, and reorganization activities.
  • Monitor and optimize database performance and storage utilization.

  • Administration and support of Oracle Application Express (APEX)

SQL & Open-Source Databases

  • Installation, configuration, and support of MySQL databases

Required Experience

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in Systems Programming and/or Database Administration.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience serving in a lead or senior-level capacity.

Additional Experience

  • 4+ years of Database Administration experience supporting Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Microsoft SQL Server environments.
  • 3+ years of experience transferring, validating, and maintaining databases within cloud environments.

  • Bachelor's degree in:
