A highly regarded New England law firm is seeking a Litigation Associate to join its Portland, Maine office and growing civil litigation practice.
This position will focus primarily on insurance defense and general civil litigation, with the opportunity to handle matters involving personal injury, premises liability, product liability, professional liability, construction disputes, commercial litigation, insurance coverage, and other complex civil matters.
The ideal candidate will have prior litigation experience and be comfortable taking meaningful ownership of matters while working closely with experienced trial attorneys. The role offers direct client exposure, hands-on case responsibility, and the opportunity to continue developing as a well-rounded litigator within a collaborative and highly respected platform.

Job Details
Responsibilities
Manage insurance defense and civil litigation matters from inception through resolution
Draft pleadings, motions, discovery responses, legal memoranda, and other litigation materials
Conduct and defend depositions
Attend court hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and other proceedings
Analyze liability, damages, coverage, and overall case exposure
Work directly with insurers, insureds, businesses, professionals, and other clients
Assist with trial preparation and participate in trials as experience allows
Collaborate with partners and senior attorneys on complex and high-exposure matters
Qualifications
J.D. from an accredited law school
Admission to the Maine Bar required or ability to obtain admission promptly
Approximately 2+ years of litigation experience preferred
Prior experience in insurance defense, general liability, professional liability, products liability, construction litigation, or related civil litigation strongly preferred
Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills
Strong attention to detail and ability to independently manage deadlines and caseloads
Excellent interpersonal and client-service skills
Interest in developing a long-term litigation practice in Maine
