A premier law firm in downtown San Diego is seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to support its Commercial Business Litigation practice. This is a critical role within a fast-paced litigation team, providing high-level administrative and organizational support to multiple attorneys handling complex, high-stakes matters.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and thrives in a sophisticated "big law" environment while maintaining the highest level of professionalism and discretion.
Key Responsibilities
Draft, format, proofread, and finalize legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and discovery responses
Electronically file documents in state and federal courts, ensuring accuracy and deadline compliance
Serve as a professional point of contact for clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, and vendors
Respond to inquiries and relay accurate, timely messages to attorneys
Manage attorneys' calendars, including court appearances, depositions, meetings, and critical deadlines
Schedule and confirm appointments with clients, witnesses, court reporters, and vendors
Monitor deadlines and proactively follow up on outstanding tasks
Prepare expense reports and manage billing-related documentation
Assist with ad hoc administrative and litigation support assignments as needed
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree preferred
5+ years of Commercial Business Litigation experience
Experience supporting multiple attorneys in a large or mid-size "big law" firm environment
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Experience with legal document management systems (e.g., iManage)
Strong knowledge of legal terminology, litigation procedures, and court protocols
Bilingual in Spanish (highly preferred/strongly desired)
Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage competing priorities
Work Environment & Schedule
Hybrid schedule: up to four remote workdays per month (subject to firm policy)
Remaining days are in-office at the firm's downtown San Diego location
Standard hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (30-minute lunch)
Occasional overtime may be required based on business needs
Salary Range: $90,000 - $105,000, depending on experience
