Life Safety Systems Engineer

Work on various projects assigned by a Department Manager, playing a role in the entire design process, including preliminary assessments, concept creation, leading designs with support, problem resolution, drawing and specification production, on-site construction administration services, and customer and vendor accessibility. Interface directly with client counterparts in designing facilities and state and local code officials, providing calculations, equipment size and quantities, equipment and construction specifications, network diagrams, and construction deliverables in both 2D and 3D platforms for a constructible design.

Responsibilities

• Work on various projects assigned by a Department Manager, playing a role in the entire design process, including preliminary assessments, concept creation, leading designs with support, problem resolution, drawing and specification production, on-site construction administration services, and customer and vendor accessibility.
• Ensure that projects are completed on time while providing technical design leadership of systems for data center buildings, including fire alarm and detection systems, smoke control systems, fire protection systems, and other life safety or low voltage systems.
• Travel a minimum of 25% to various job sites, assisting in construction administration services, including punch walks, witness testing, and design assistance and support.
• Provide code-compliant asset protection and fire mitigation and life safety solutions, offering guidance to co-workers and receiving solutions from senior design professionals to take ownership of various projects.
• Interface directly with client counterparts in designing facilities and state and local code officials, providing calculations, equipment size and quantities, equipment and construction specifications, network diagrams, and construction deliverables in both 2D and 3D platforms for a constructible design.

Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor's degree in engineering
• Knowledge and design experience with Fire Alarm Systems and related manufacturers' equipment, including VESDA systems
• Experience in the field installing, inspecting, or testing fire alarm systems
• Familiarity with manufacturers such as Notifier, Edwards, and Xtralis
• Knowledge of IBC, IFC, NFPA101 Life Safety Code, and NFPA 72 Fire Alarm and Signaling Code
• Knowledge and application of NFPA 70 (NEC) and electrical design requirements
• Knowledge of general design and construction specifications
• Experience leading projects and managing resources

Preferred:

• At least 4 years of Autodesk Revit design experience
• Professional Engineering (PE) license
• Knowledge of NFPA 75, NFPA 76, NFPA 2001, and NFPA 13 codes
• Design experience in data centers
• Experience mentoring junior staff
• Experience estimating and scheduling mid-to-large-scale projects

Additional Information

The base salary range for this position is $48 to $88 hourly. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
