Library Public Service Specialist I
LOCATION
Dallas, TX 75201 | Onsite
COMPENSATION & SCHEDULE
• $20/hour
• Hours will vary Monday through Sunday.
ROLE IMPACT
Provide frontline library services that help customers access information, technology, materials, and community resources. This role supports patrons of all ages through reference assistance, technology guidance, reader services, programming, and outreach while creating a welcoming and respectful library experience.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist customers with reference and information requests using the library catalog, databases, downloadable content, Internet resources, and research techniques.
• Help patrons locate materials, use computers and technology, obtain library cards, check out materials, make copies, and understand library policies and procedures.
• Build positive relationships with library users, community members, local groups, and agencies while providing tactful, courteous customer service and resolving conflicts effectively.
• Support reader services, one-on-one computer and job-search assistance, promotional displays, reading lists, presentations, programming, outreach, and assigned collection development.
• Perform library support duties including opening and closing facilities, limited shelving and check-in services, maintaining orderly spaces, serving as designated staff in charge when assigned, and traveling between work sites as staffing needs require.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor's degree in English, Library Sciences, History, or a related field; OR an associate degree/60 hours of college credit with at least four (4) years of full-time frontline customer service experience.
• Two (2) years of frontline customer service experience or library services.
• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively, exercise sound judgment, organize priorities, meet deadlines, and serve a diverse community.
