JOB SUMMARY
Kutak Rock LLP seeks a full-time litigation legal assistant in its Spokane, Washington office to provide support to multiple trial lawyers in a busy litigation practice in both state and federal courts, who are committed to providing high-quality, efficient work product. The ideal candidate works well under pressure, understands court rules, and can prioritize and transition from one project to another. 

Normal business hours are 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m, Monday - Friday, with some flexibility specific to the department and related work loads.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Draft, proofread, edit, and finalize pleadings, discovery, briefs, memoranda, and correspondence 
  • Maintain timekeepers’ calendars and ownership of all deadline management (calculate, input, monitor, and ensure compliance with all deadlines); review documents and correspondence to identify and calendar important deadlines utilizing CompuLaw and Outlook 
  • Prepare scans, copies, printing, and working binders
  • Perform administrative support to proceedings in district, superior, appellate, and federal courts as well as all arbitration platforms and mediation
  • Perform document comparisons using firm software
  • Organize and maintain electronic files in the Firm’s document management system (NetDocs)
  • Accept responsibility and take directions for work assignments and tasks; must be able to adapt to ever-changing priorities 
  • Handle client communications (when appropriate) through telephone and e-mail
  • Maintain, report and track Continuing Legal Education (CLE)
  • Arrange travel and handle attorney expense reports 
  • Enter lawyers’ expenses for submission to Accounting through internal billing software
  • Schedule conference calls, meetings, and professional organization events for attorneys using Outlook, Zoom, and Teams
  • Provide occasional coverage to office reception desk in rotation with existing office staff
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with lawyers, clients, and paralegals 
  • Assist with other tasks as assigned or necessary
 
QUALIFICATIONS: Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to work well under the pressures of deadlines by prioritizing, multitasking, and transitioning between projects efficiently
  • Proficient understanding of local court rules, procedures, and e-filing
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office including the use of charts, styles, table of contents, table of authorities, including Word and Excel
  • Experience in editing, combining, and assembling PDF documents
  • Excellent grammar, spelling, and proofreading and organizational skills
  • Ability and interest in learning new skills including software and technology
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and adept at professional interactions with lawyers, clients, and staff
  • Punctual and dependable
 
QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; however, Associate or Bachelor degree preferred 
  • Significant experience working in a litigation department / law firm 
  • Preference is given to those with a minimum of five years of civil litigation experience and familiarity with local, state, and federal court procedures and electronic court filing
 
Position Information
Status: Non-Exempt 
Salary Range: $60,000-$75,000 per year, commensurate with education and experience. 
Work Arrangement: In Office
