Job Summary

This position provides administrative assistance to the County Attorney's Office.

Major Duties

  • Prepares state petitions and files for prosecution and pre-summons.
  • Prepares court dockets.
  • Prepares court orders.
  • Prepares declined and deferred forms.
  • Prepares and types a variety of letters and memoranda.
  • Files and indexes documents.
  • Answers telephones and greets visitors; provides information and assistance.
  • Scans and faxes documents.
  • Schedules depositions and mediations.
  • Prepares requests for medical records.
  • Attends meetings and conferences; prepares meeting minutes.
  • Attends court hearings.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of legal terminology, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Skill in analyzing problems and developing and implementing solutions.
  • Skill in preparing clear and concise administrative reports.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing in the English language and orally in the Spanish language.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
  • Must have at least one ( 1 ) year of work experience as a secretary or legal assistant.

Complexity/Scope of Work

  • The work consists of a variety of duties related to providing legal services to the County. The diversity of assignments contributes to the complexity of the position.
  • The purpose of this position is to prosecute and defend assigned civil and criminal cases and to provide legal counsel and advice to County departments.

  • Must possess a valid and current Texas Drivers License or a Texas Identification Card.
  • Drug and Alcohol Policy applies to this job. Pre-employment drug/alcohol testing, Motor Vehicle Record (MVR), and criminal background checks are required.
  • This position is not covered under Civil Service; however, all other Webb County policies apply.
