Schedule: Flexibility to work a 4/10 schedule (M-Th), 5/8, or 9/80 schedule.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Under general supervision, provides lead work direction and performs semi-skilled work focused on the care, maintenance, and preparation of City athletic fields and ball fields. Responsibilities include preparing and maintaining baseball, softball, and other sports fields; maintaining turf, infields, warning tracks, fences, dugouts, backstops, and related athletic field facilities; performing field lining, dragging, grooming, edging, and other game-day preparation activities; and installing, repairing, and maintaining irrigation lines and sprinkler systems for athletic fields and landscaped areas. Performs routine grounds maintenance, operates a variety of hand and power equipment, and assists with the care and maintenance of City parks, recreational facilities, trails, and related systems and facilities. Performs related duties as assigned.

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE

The City of Moreno Valley is seeking a dependable, skilled, and team-oriented Lead Parks Maintenance Worker who takes pride in maintaining safe, clean, well-maintained, and game-ready parks, ball fields, sports fields, trails, and recreational facilities. The ideal candidate is an experienced maintenance professional with strong knowledge of athletic field and ball field maintenance, including turf care, infield preparation and grooming, field lining, irrigation systems, landscaping, and the upkeep of sports field facilities and equipment. The ideal candidate will be able to lead, train, and support a crew while working independently and exercising sound judgment to ensure athletic fields are properly maintained, safe, and ready for practices, games, and community use. A strong work ethic, attention to detail, commitment to safety, excellent communication skills, and a customer-service mindset are essential to success in this role.

MINIMUM AND DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities outlined above is graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent, and three years of journey-level experience in parks or landscape maintenance work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Eligible List: Once the appraisal is complete, HR will establish an eligible list of candidates. Candidates placed on the eligible list may be referred to a selection interview to be considered for present and future vacancies.
