PURPOSE:

Leads proliferation of machine learning and artificial intelligence throughout the enterprise. Identifies and solves business problems by using various numerical techniques, algorithms, and models in statistical modeling, machine learning, operations research, and data mining. Uses advanced analytical capabilities to support data science initiatives. Communicates across product teams and with customers and educates on artificial intelligence, machine learning, and statistical models. Leads interactions between analytics, business units and other departments.

We are not looking for generalists who may have an IT background and various credentials like Scrum, Agile, etc. We are looking for an experienced professional in the greater Baltimore/Washington metropolitan area who is willing and able to work in a hybrid model. The incumbent will be expected to work a portion of their week from home and a portion of their week at a CareFirst location based on business needs and work activities/deliverables that week.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Leads all data mining and extraction activities and apply algorithms to derive insights. Contribute to the analytics, reporting and data governance activity related to Member Identification/Stratification (ID/STRAT), Attribution/Program Assignment, Data Extracts/Sharing, Population Health Management, Predictive Modeling and Program Evaluation. Support items like AI implementations, partnerships with our IT/Data Management teams, vendor support (ex: Milliman MedInsights) and other related functions.
  • Synthesizes analytical findings for consumption by the teams and senior executives.
  • Leads proliferation of machine learning and artificial intelligence solutions.
  • Apply artificial intelligence techniques to achieve concrete business goals while managing limited resources and constraints around data.
  • Mentors and develop junior data scientists for advanced data analysis.
  • Translates business priorities and creates data science deliverables.
  • Leads implementation of ML/AI/DS best practices for new data products and builds robust and scalable software.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Position does not have direct reports but is expected to assist in guiding and mentoring less experienced staff. May lead a team of matrixed resources.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education Level: Bachelor''s Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or related field OR in lieu of a Bachelor''s degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required in addition to the required work experience.

Experience: 8 years of relevant work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior Healthcare analytics experience is a must.
  • Experience in domains.
  • Experience with delivering work consistently and transparently to our business partners, both internal and external.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Ability to communicate effectively and document objectives and procedures.
  • Ability to leverage a wide variety of data science tools and frameworks.
  • Ability to support data exploration and data analysis tasks in support of analytics objectives.
  • Knowledge in model evaluation, tuning and performance, operationalization, and scalability of scientific techniques.
  • Proficiency in statistical modeling applications.
  • Proficiency in advanced SQL in multiple syntaxes.
  • Must be able to meet established deadlines and handle multiple customer service demands from internal and external customers, within set expectations for service excellence. Must be able to effectively communicate and provide positive customer service to every internal and external customer, including customers who may be demanding or otherwise challenging.

Salary Range: $119,016 - $236,379
