Full-time | 35 45 hours/week | $18 $19/hour

We're looking for someone with chops. And, yes, who chops.

Necessary & Sufficient coffee is an award-winning, sustainability-driven, woman-owned Chicago caf creating fresh, craveable food with a farm-to-table sensibility.

This could be thenext step for a great cook who s ready to lead.

You don t need to arrive as a finished chef-manager. We re looking for someone with strong kitchen fundamentals, good instincts and professional standards who wants the opportunity to stretch: to lead a small team, develop seasonal food, learn the numbers behind a successful kitchen, and take greater ownership of how things run.

You'll still cook. A lot. But you ll also begin building the skills that turn a strong cook into a strong kitchen leader.

What You ll Do
  • Lead daily prep, production and service alongside your team

  • Develop seasonal, craveable menu items

  • Write, test and cost recipes

  • Learn and manage inventory, ordering, pars and waste

  • Build your understanding of food cost and kitchen financials

  • Train and support fellow kitchen staff

  • Create clear prep lists, recipes and kitchen systems

  • Prepare and execute catering orders

  • Maintain rigorous food-safety, cleanliness and quality standards

  • Help keep grab-and-go food stocked across our locations

Who We re Looking For:

You re an experienced cook with strong fundamentals and a genuine love of food. Maybe you re a line cook, lead line cook, prep cook or cook who has started becoming the person others rely on. You re ready for more responsibility and you want to learn what comes next.

You are:

  • Strong with knife, prep and line-cooking fundamentals

  • Creative and excited about developing food people crave

  • Calm and dependable when things get busy

  • Collaborative, professional and low-ego

  • Organized and attentive to detail

  • Comfortable with numbers or interested in getting much better at them

  • Someone who notices what needs doing and follows through

  • Curious, ambitious and ready to grow into leadership

  • Has or is willing to obtain Managers Serve Safe Certificate

We re not looking for kitchen heroics or a big personality. We re looking for a steady force who cares deeply about doing excellent work and helping the people around them do excellent work, too.

What You'll Learn

This role is an opportunity to build real kitchen leadership skills: recipe costing, purchasing, inventory, food-cost management, training, systems development, seasonal menu planning and running a small kitchen operation.

We'll expect a lot from you. We also expect to help you grow.

Compensation + Benefits:

$18 $19/hour, plus catering tips and delivery pay.

Benefits include PTO, 401(k) with employer match, performance-based bonuses, transportation stipend, Employee Assistance Program, disability and life insurance, shift meals and drinks, and retail discounts.

A vehicle is required for weekly food, catering and supply deliveries between our Chicago locations.

Bring your creativity, professionalism and appetite for doing things well. We'll bring the coffee.
