    Description

    Scope: Under the direct supervision of the Biorepository Manager, the Biorepository Technician - I role is responsible for supporting and implementing the Biorepository Program which has been established to monitor and maintain all equipment associated with cryogenic storage of HCT/Ps, control movement and inventory of cryopreserved HCT/Ps, and support release activities.

    Qualifications

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Must be able to speak, read, and write in English.
    • Must be able to perform basic arithmetic.
    • Must be detail oriented and able to follow written instructions presented in standard operating procedures.
    • Must be proficient in basic skills associated with MS Office applications, especially MS Excel.
    • Must be able to stand, walk, and crouch. Must be able to lift at least 54 pounds.

    Work Environment:

    • This role works mostly in climate-controlled environments in both an office and laboratory setting.

    • As a part of daily activities, this role will work with product stored at cryogenic temperatures as low as -198°C

    • As a part of daily activities, this role may come in minimal contact with bloodborne pathogens or infectious substances, toxic or dangerous chemicals, and liquid nitrogen.

    Experience:

    • At least 1 year of experience in a professional setting

    • 1 year of experience in a similar setting preferred.

    Education:

    • High School Diploma required.

    • Associate level (AS) degree in chemical, biological, or medical sciences preferred.

    Job Summary:

    The Biorepository Technician - I role is an entry level, non-exempt, technical position which provides direct support for activities within the Biorepository Department. The Biorepository Department has the overarching responsibility for monitoring and maintaining all cryopreserved biological specimens held in long term inventory. Essential activities include daily monitoring of equipment performance, executing calibrations and preventative maintenance, and performing inventory and transfer activities.

    Essential Functions & Accountabilities:

    • Performs inventory management to include receiving, assessment, storage, transferring, and

    distribution of medical specimens/devices.

    • Adheres to strict guidelines when handling specimen/devices while performing inventory

    management functions.

    • Performs related shipping and receiving functions of medical specimens/devices to include

    picking/packing, serial number/lot number verification, package preparation, scanning, courier

    interaction, tracking of incoming and outgoing shipments, and general follow-up as needed.

    • Responds to biorepository alert systems with appropriate follow-up action
    • Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect specimen integrity and either must

    correct the problems or immediately notify the general supervisor, technical supervisor, manager,

    or director of biorepository operations.

    • Performs on-call duties and responses to biorepository alert systems
    • Performs equipment monitoring and maintenance on all biorepository related equipment, including bulk LN2 supply equipment.
    • Performs quality control checks on all biorepository related equipment
    • Interacts and updates various databases related to biorepository functions and activities
    • Provide administration support by producing various reports and record keeping associated with

    biorepository functions and activities

    • Adheres to strict safety guidelines
    • Handles liquid nitrogen (LN2) utilizing personal protective equipment and good safety practices.
    • Assist in external/internal audit preparations as required.
    • Adheres to all company policies and procedures Performs other duties and projects as required

    Travel: No travel is expected for this role
