    Overview:

    The Laboratory Assistant serves as a key member of the Laboratory team by providing exceptional customer service and administrative support. This position serves as a primary point of contact for patients and healthcare providers. Responsibilities include assisting patients, order entry, specimen receiving, and other laboratory support functions. The Laboratory Assistant ensures accurate specimen handling and maintains compliance with laboratory policies and safety standards. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

    Responsibilities:
      • Provide exceptional customer service to patients, healthcare providers, and internal departments.
      • Answer incoming telephone calls and respond to inquiries or direct calls appropriately.
      • Transcribe laboratory orders accurately into the Laboratory information system.
      • Receive specimen drop-offs, ensuring proper identification, labeling, and documentation.
      • Collaborate effectively with laboratory personnel, registration staff, nursing units, provider offices, and other healthcare professionals to ensure efficient patient care and issue resolution.
      • Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies, including stocking work areas and rotating inventory to ensure proper usage and minimize waste.
      • Follow laboratory policies, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements to maintain specimen integrity and quality standards.
      • Perform other duties as assigned to support laboratory operations.
    Qualifications:
    • Required
      • High school diploma or equivalent.
      • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
      • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
      • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
      • Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn laboratory information system.

     Preferred

      • Previous laboratory, phlebotomy, or healthcare experience.
      • Coursework toward a college degree in a healthcare, biological science, or related field.
