We are seeking a Laboratory Research Technician to support daily laboratory operations within an Animal Health Discovery research team. This position will primarily support parasitology research, including insect and ectoparasite rearing, laboratory maintenance, reagent preparation, and internal drug-screening activities.
The ideal candidate has previous hands-on laboratory experience as well as experience working in a vivarium, insectary, or similar research environment maintaining insect or ectoparasite colonies. This role requires strong attention to detail and the ability to independently perform routine and repetitive laboratory procedures once trained.
Support daily insect husbandry, rearing, and colony maintenance activities.
Perform routine and repetitive laboratory procedures independently after appropriate training.
Support parasitology research and internal drug-screening activities.
Prepare reagents and laboratory materials according to established procedures.
Assist with specific steps in laboratory assay execution.
Perform routine laboratory cleaning, organization, and consumable stocking.
Track laboratory equipment, maintenance schedules, inventory, and supplies.
Place laboratory supply orders as needed.
Ensure proper receipt, storage, handling, and disposal of laboratory materials.
Perform laboratory activities using appropriate aseptic techniques.
Learn the basic operation of laboratory automation software and equipment, progressing to occasional independent operation.
Complete assigned tasks accurately, efficiently, and with minimal supervision.
Follow all applicable safety protocols, regulatory requirements, and internal Good Scientific Practice (GSP) standards.
College coursework in Biology, Biological Sciences, Animal Science, Entomology, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
2+ years of laboratory experience within a research company, biotechnology/pharmaceutical environment, or academic institution.
1+ year of experience working in a vivarium or insectary maintaining insect or ectoparasite colonies.
Previous hands-on insect rearing and maintenance experience required.
Experience performing laboratory activities using aseptic technique.
Strong attention to detail and demonstrated ability to perform meticulous laboratory work.
Dependable, organized, and able to complete tasks independently with minimal supervision.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively within a collaborative research team.
Fluency in English.
Ability and willingness to learn laboratory automation software and equipment.
College-level coursework in biology or a related scientific discipline is required.
