Description

The Key Account Manager (KAM) is responsible for managing and growing a portfolio of 20–25 high-value utility accounts within an assigned territory. This role was established as part of a strategic sales transformation, shifting from broad geographic coverage to a focused model centered on deep, long-term account ownership.

As a quota-carrying role, the KAM owns the full performance of their accounts, with a mandate to strengthen relationships, expand wallet share, and drive sustained growth across the company’s solutions portfolio. Success in this position depends on strong relationship management, strategic thinking, and consistent in-person engagement with stakeholders ranging from field technicians to executive leadership.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Own and manage a portfolio of 20–25 assigned utility accounts

  • Build and maintain strong, multi-level relationships across customer organizations (technical, operational, and executive)

  • Identify growth opportunities and expand share of wallet within existing accounts

  • Develop and execute strategic account plans aligned with regional and global priorities

  • Achieve and exceed assigned sales quotas

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with:

  • Regional & Strategic Account Managers

  • Regional Business Unit Leaders

  • Product Specialists and internal sales teams

  • Maintain a robust, accurate, and visible sales pipeline through disciplined CRM usage

  • Travel extensively (up to 50%) to support in-person customer engagement

  • Accurately document all customer interactions, opportunities, and activities in CRM (non-negotiable)

What You Must Have

  • Proven experience in account management or key account sales, ideally within:

    • Utilities (Transmission & Distribution strongly preferred)

    • Industrial, infrastructure, or capital equipment sectors

  • Demonstrated success managing large, complex, non-transactional accounts

  • Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to influence both technical and executive stakeholders

  • Experience navigating long sales cycles with multiple decision-makers

  • Stable career progression with consistent tenure

  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively in a field-based role

Why Join the Team

This role offers the opportunity to own and shape strategic customer relationships within a focused, high-impact sales model. You’ll be empowered to act as a true business partner to your accounts while working alongside experienced colleagues across sales, product, and leadership teams. The organization is investing in long-term growth, giving you the tools, autonomy, and support needed to succeed in a highly visible role.

Who Will Excel in This Role

  • Relationship-driven professionals who thrive on face-to-face engagement

  • Strategic thinkers who can balance long-term account planning with near-term execution

  • Self-starters who take full ownership of their territory and results

  • Individuals comfortable operating in complex, matrixed environments

  • “Road warriors” who enjoy being in the field and building customer trust over time

  • Professionals who value discipline in CRM usage and sales process rigor

Salary & Perks

  • Base Salary: $80,000 + commission

  • On-Target Earnings: $175,000–$195,000

  • Medical, Dental & Vision Insurance (day-one coverage; majority employer-paid)

  • Prescription Coverage & Health Savings Account (with company contributions)

  • Life & AD&D Insurance (100% employer-paid at 1.5x salary; supplemental options available)
