Description
The Key Account Manager (KAM) is responsible for managing and growing a portfolio of 20–25 high-value utility accounts within an assigned territory. This role was established as part of a strategic sales transformation, shifting from broad geographic coverage to a focused model centered on deep, long-term account ownership.
As a quota-carrying role, the KAM owns the full performance of their accounts, with a mandate to strengthen relationships, expand wallet share, and drive sustained growth across the company’s solutions portfolio. Success in this position depends on strong relationship management, strategic thinking, and consistent in-person engagement with stakeholders ranging from field technicians to executive leadership.
What You’ll Be Doing
Own and manage a portfolio of 20–25 assigned utility accounts
Build and maintain strong, multi-level relationships across customer organizations (technical, operational, and executive)
Identify growth opportunities and expand share of wallet within existing accounts
Develop and execute strategic account plans aligned with regional and global priorities
Achieve and exceed assigned sales quotas
Collaborate cross-functionally with:
Regional & Strategic Account Managers
Regional Business Unit Leaders
Product Specialists and internal sales teams
Maintain a robust, accurate, and visible sales pipeline through disciplined CRM usage
Travel extensively (up to 50%) to support in-person customer engagement
Accurately document all customer interactions, opportunities, and activities in CRM (non-negotiable)
What You Must Have
Proven experience in account management or key account sales, ideally within:
Utilities (Transmission & Distribution strongly preferred)
Industrial, infrastructure, or capital equipment sectors
Demonstrated success managing large, complex, non-transactional accounts
Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to influence both technical and executive stakeholders
Experience navigating long sales cycles with multiple decision-makers
Stable career progression with consistent tenure
Willingness and ability to travel extensively in a field-based role
