Description

Our client, a Consumer Products And Software Services company, is looking for a Junior Board Hardware Design Engineer for their Sunnyvale, CA  location.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Schematic & PCB Design: Assist in creating electrical schematics and multi-layer PCB layouts using ECAD tools.
  • Component Selection: Research and select electronic components based on performance, cost, and availability. Maintain the digital component library.
  • Prototyping & Assembly: Bring up new hardware prototypes, including hands-on board rework, soldering, modifications, and MCU/FPGA programming
  • Testing & Verification: Use lab equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers) to test, debug, and validate hardware functionality against specifications.
  • Documentation: Generate and maintain engineering documentation, including Bills of Materials (BOMs) PCB Gerbers, test plans, and design reviews.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with firmware, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless product integration.
  • Fabrication: Work with PCB fab and assembly vendors to submit designs and answer technical questions. Suggest part substitutions when components are out of stock.
 
Requirements:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Circuit Fundamentals: Strong understanding of analog and digital circuit design principles.
  • ECAD Experience: Familiarity with PCB design software such as Altium Designer, KiCad, OrCAD, or Eagle (academic project experience is acceptable).
  • Lab Skills: Hands-on experience with standard lab equipment and basic soldering/rework skills.
  • Problem Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to diagnose hardware issues.
  • Communication: Clear written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and teamwork.
  • Experience with common communication protocols like I2C, SPI, UART, or USB.
  • Prior internship or co-op experience in hardware development or electronics manufacturing.
  • Basic understanding of power management (buck/boost regulators, LDOs) and signal integrity basics.
