Assistant Controller / Junior Controller
Location: Farmers Branch, TX
Schedule: Hybrid — primarily onsite with remote flexibility
Employment Type: Direct Hire
Compensation: Up to $130,000 base salary
We are seeking an ambitious, hands-on Assistant Controller / Junior Controller to join a growing, multi-entity organization.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who wants to take the next step in their career while remaining closely involved in the day-to-day accounting function.
The ideal candidate combines strong accounting fundamentals with proven leadership experience. This is not a role for someone who has moved entirely away from the accounting details—the successful candidate will be comfortable working directly in the General Ledger, investigating discrepancies, reviewing reconciliations, solving accounting issues, and improving processes while also leading and developing an accounting team.
Own and manage the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process.
Maintain the integrity of the General Ledger and ensure accurate balance sheet reconciliations.
Review journal entries, accruals, reserves, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
Oversee day-to-day accounting activities across:
Accounts Receivable
Accounts Payable
Cash
Treasury
General Ledger
Other transactional accounting functions
Review accounting work and provide technical guidance to team members.
Prepare and review financial reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP and company policies.
Support accounting across multiple entities and locations.
Assist with consolidations, intercompany transactions, and other complex accounting matters.
Oversee key accounting areas including revenue, inventory, fixed assets, prepaid expenses, accruals, and other balance sheet accounts.
Support sales and use tax compliance and related reconciliations.
Assist with external audits, tax support, and requests from outside advisors.
Maintain and strengthen accounting controls, policies, procedures, and documentation.
Identify accounting and process issues and independently drive them through to resolution.
Identify opportunities to improve, automate, and streamline accounting processes.
Work closely with Finance, Operations, Sales, IT, and other business leaders.
Support budgeting and financial planning activities.
Assist with acquisitions, integrations, system implementations, and other strategic accounting projects as needed.
This position will lead an accounting organization of approximately 11 employees, including team members supporting Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and accounting operations.
The successful candidate will:
Provide clear direction, expectations, and accountability.
Review and develop team members.
Understand different personalities and adapt their leadership style accordingly.
Provide effective and constructive feedback.
Be approachable, collaborative, and willing to listen.
Advocate for the team while maintaining appropriate standards and accountability.
Develop team members so they can operate independently and effectively.
Strong understanding of accounting fundamentals and General Ledger accounting.
Progressive accounting experience with meaningful involvement in month-end close and financial reporting.
Previous experience managing or leading an accounting team.
Strong knowledge of accruals, reserves, reconciliations, and financial controls.
Experience with transactional accounting, including AR, AP, cash, and General Ledger functions.
Strong Microsoft Excel skills and the ability to independently analyze and solve problems.
Ability to work comfortably in the details and investigate issues without requiring step-by-step direction.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent relevant experience.
CPA or MBA is a plus, but not required.
Public accounting experience is a plus.
Prior experience as an Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, Senior Accounting Manager, or similar role.
Experience in distribution, construction, project-based, or multi-location environments.
Experience working with multiple entities or ERP systems.
