Technical Delivery Lead - Java Applications

Location: Charlotte, NC - (3 days onsite, 2 Remote)

Our clients organization serves as an internal technology shared services team supporting multiple business units across the bank. The team manages a large portfolio of initiatives including new application development, modernization efforts, automation projects, platform enhancements, and internal technology consulting.

We are seeking a Technical Delivery Lead to serve as a key partner to engineering leadership, helping evaluate incoming work requests, prioritize initiatives, drive execution, and support technical decision-making across a portfolio of Java-based applications.

This role is ideal for a former Java developer or technical lead who enjoys working closely with engineers, solving technical challenges, managing competing priorities, and ensuring successful delivery of complex projects. While hands-on coding is not the primary focus, the ability to understand architecture, review code, and participate in technical discussions is essential.

Responsibilities

• Partner with engineering leadership to evaluate and prioritize incoming project requests and enhancement opportunities.
• Assess technical requirements and help determine the appropriate solution approach for new initiatives.
• Collaborate with developers, stakeholders, and product teams to define project scope, timelines, and execution strategies.
• Drive delivery across multiple concurrent initiatives while managing dependencies, risks, and competing priorities.
• Facilitate technical discussions and provide guidance throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Identify and remove blockers impacting engineering teams and project delivery.
• Work closely with development teams to support API integrations, application enhancements, and modernization initiatives.
• Participate in roadmap planning and capacity discussions for the Java engineering team.
• Review technical solutions and help ensure alignment with engineering best practices.
• Monitor project progress and communicate status, risks, and priorities to stakeholders.
• Support CI/CD and deployment processes in partnership with development and DevOps teams.
• Contribute to continuous improvement efforts related to engineering processes, delivery practices, and team effectiveness.

Required Qualifications

• 7+ years of software engineering, technical leadership, or application delivery experience.
• Strong background in Java application development.
• Experience with Spring Boot and enterprise application development.
• Hands-on experience working with REST APIs and system integrations.
• Strong understanding of SQL and relational database concepts.
• Experience leading technical projects or serving as a technical lead on cross-functional initiatives.
• Ability to read, review, and discuss code with development teams.
• Experience managing multiple projects, priorities, and stakeholder requests simultaneously.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
• Experience working within Agile development environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Angular experience.
• Experience with PostgreSQL and MySQL.
• Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
• Experience supporting application modernization initiatives.
• Understanding of cloud-based technologies and Azure services.
• Familiarity with event-driven architectures and distributed systems.
• Financial services or banking industry experience.
• Previous experience serving as a Senior Developer, Lead Developer, Technical Lead, or Engineering Lead.
