Mathpix is looking for an early-career IT Support & Systems Administrator to own the day-to-day systems, support, and technician work that keeps our Brooklyn office, developer fleet, and on-site infrastructure running. This is a role with real room to grow - youll own the day-to-day support and technician work from the start, assist senior staff on more sensitive changes, and pick up network, Linux, CCTV, and automation skills as you go.

We care most about strong fundamentals and the drive to learn quickly. If youve got the basics and want to grow into a broad systems and infrastructure role, well invest in you. The work is hands-on and on-site: end-user support, building developer workstations, structured cabling, CCTV, and the scripting that automates it all.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide end-user support - diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network issues, walk users through solutions, escalate complex problems, and do root-cause analysis to prevent recurrence
  • Install, configure, and update software, operating systems, and Linux systems - user accounts, permissions, packages, and SSH access
  • Keep the network healthy - troubleshoot LAN/WAN issues and assist with ACL and firewall changes under supervision
  • Build developer workstations from scratch (assemble, image, configure), and provision, support, and decommission user devices
  • Break/fix Apple laptops - hardware and macOS diagnostics, repairs, and reimaging
  • Perform structured cabling - running, terminating, patching, labeling, and documenting
  • Help design, install, and maintain CCTV systems - camera selection, NVR/VMS storage, firmware, and system-health monitoring
  • Write simple scripts (Bash / PowerShell / Python) to automate routine tasks and harden Mac computers with security baselines and configuration enforcement
  • Maintain accurate records, knowledge-base articles, and user guides, and provide basic end-user training
  • Run routine maintenance and checks to keep systems stable and secure, and help improve IT processes

Required skills:

  • Solid fundamentals in hardware, operating systems, and networking, with the drive to learn quickly
  • Comfortable troubleshooting end-user hardware, software, and network problems and explaining solutions clearly
  • Basic Linux familiarity - user accounts, permissions, packages, SSH
  • Hands-on and detail-oriented - willing to build workstations, run cable, and do physical technician work on-site in Brooklyn
  • Good documentation habits and clear written communication

Nice to have:

  • Scripting for automation (Bash, PowerShell, or Python)
  • Experience with CCTV / NVR / VMS systems and physical-security infrastructure
  • Structured cabling experience (running, terminating, patching, labeling)
  • macOS hardware repair and reimaging, and Mac security-baseline tooling
  • Exposure to firewalls, ACLs, and LAN/WAN administration
  • Contributions outside of work - personal projects, a home lab, open-source, or technical writing
