This is important public contact work involving cash handling, receiving and processing customer payment transactions, receiving and processing requests for the initiation and discontinuance of City utility services, and responding to related customer inquiries and complaints along with other and related clerical duties of a complex nature. Work involves responsibility for receiving money in payment of bills for utility bills, business taxes, building permits, special assessments, fines and fees, or other sources of revenue due the City; accounting and data entry duties to document transactions and to produce needed reports; and high-volume interaction with internal and external customers which frequently requires the skilled use of discretion and tact while firmly enforcing applicable policies and rules. An employee in this class is responsible for ensuring that the assigned work group complies with well-established and defined procedures and policies of moderate complexity; and is also responsible for resolving customer service concerns and complaints based on extensive knowledge of the applicable policies and available resources.
