    Description

    Inspiring General Sales Manager

Build the Team. Architect the Experience. Drive What’s Next.

    Why Maverick?

Maverick is a used car dealership that doesn’t act like one.

And people notice. We’ve been voted Idaho’s Best and Best of the Treasure Valley for 5 straight years, and have earned a rare 4.9-star Google rating from more than 2,200 reviews.

We believe buying a vehicle can be a genuinely great experience, not because we’ve made the traditional dealership experience slightly better, but because we’ve redesigned the whole operation around people, relationships, and trust.

That starts with building an exceptional team, refining processes that make it easy to do the right thing, and developing client relationships that extend well beyond the day a vehicle is purchased.

We’re looking for a General Sales Manager who can help architect that experience while building the team and systems capable of delivering it consistently as we grow.

This role leads our Sales, Internet, and Finance teams and serves as a key member of Maverick’s Leadership Team.

    Your Purpose

This role is about much more than hitting a monthly sales number.

You’re responsible for building the team, culture, leadership, and systems that make an exceptional client experience and strong results repeatable.

You’ll think strategically about where Maverick is going and what the team will need to get there, while staying deeply involved in developing the people making it happen.

One morning might be spent working through quarterly strategy with the Leadership Team. That afternoon could mean coaching a Client Advisor, developing a Finance Manager, digging into conversion performance, or rebuilding a process that’s creating friction for clients or the team.

You need to love both sides of that equation.

The job isn’t to do everything yourself. It’s to build a team that gets better, stronger, and more capable because you’re there.

What This Role Is Really About

    Build an Exceptional Team

You’ll build, lead, and develop high-performing Sales, Internet, and Finance teams.

That means developing the talent already here, recruiting great people, building future leaders, creating healthy accountability, and shaping a culture where people are excited about what they’re building, proud of the work they do, and want to stay and grow.

As we expand our inventory and operation, we’re looking to grow our current team of eight toward 12–14 exceptional people, and beyond.  People who love where they work, are proud of how they treat clients, and are continually getting better at what they do.

Your job isn’t simply to manage the team. It’s to multiply its capability.

    Elevate the Client Experience

The client experience is one of the primary reasons this role exists.

You’ll continually improve how clients experience Maverick, from their first inquiry through delivery, follow-up, and the relationship that leads to their next vehicle.

    You’ll ask:

Where are we creating friction? How can we make this easier and more human? How do we build deeper client relationships from here?

Then you’ll collaborate and turn those answers into better processes, training, tools, and behaviors the team can consistently execute.

The goal isn’t simply, “I’d buy here again.” It’s: “I’d never buy anywhere else, and I’m telling my friends about this place.”

    Develop People Through Coaching

This is a coaching-heavy leadership role.

You’ll work one-on-one with team members, lead training, develop leaders, coach performance, and help people become more capable and successful.

The coaching goes well beyond traditional sales techniques. A major part of the role is helping people improve how they communicate, manage their time and priorities, follow through consistently, and build deeper, long-lasting client relationships.

We’re looking for an exceptional teacher and coach who knows how to challenge, encourage, and inspire people to grow and do their best work.

    Turn Strategy Into Execution

As a member of Maverick’s Leadership Team, you’ll help shape company strategy, annual and quarterly priorities, and the future direction of the business.

But strategy only matters when it becomes execution.

You’ll translate big-picture decisions into what your leaders and team members need to accomplish this quarter, this week, and today.

That means establishing priorities, building processes, delegating effectively, following through, and making sure the important things actually get done.

It also means leading Sales as part of the larger Maverick organization, not as a department behind its own walls. You’ll work closely with other leaders and teams to solve problems across the entire client and vehicle journey without creating silos or optimizing one department at the expense of another.

    Study Performance. Keep Improving.

We’re not looking for someone to maintain the status quo.

You’ll dig into lead response, conversion, follow-up, profitability, individual performance, and especially the strength of the relationships we’re building with clients over time.

You’ll work on how we’re staying connected after the sale, giving clients compelling reasons to come back, and creating experiences they can’t help telling others about.

Then you’ll combine the data with client feedback, team feedback, and your own observation to understand what needs to improve.

If you naturally ask “Is there a better way?” and have the discipline to actually build that better way, you’re exactly the kind of leader we’re looking for.

    What This Role Is Not

This isn’t a traditional GSM role centered on desking deals or managing transactions.

We have lleaders handling much of the day-to-day deal flow, trades, financing, and sales execution.

You’ll need to understand every part of the operation and be willing to jump in when needed, but your highest-value work is proactive: developing people and leaders, gaining insights from the team, improving systems, studying performance, strengthening the client experience, and building an organization capable of scaling well beyond today’s volume.

    What Success Looks Like

Growth is absolutely part of this opportunity, but success isn’t simply more sales or higher gross.

With a relatively small Sales Team, Maverick has already reached 135 vehicles sold in a month. Now we’re working to sustain that volume, and build toward 200+. Getting there isn’t about simply adding inventory or pushing harder to close deals. It's all about building the team, leadership, systems, and client relationships capable of supporting that growth.

More importantly, we believe the strongest and most sustainable path to that growth is through real client relationships. We want increasingly more of Maverick’s business to come from people who loved their experience, choose to come back, and confidently send their friends and family to us.

Those relationships aren’t just one measure of success. They become the primary engine of Maverick’s growth.

    You’ll know you’re succeeding when:

    • Great people are joining, growing, and staying

    • Leaders are being developed internally, with consistent, measurable growth plans

    • More and more of Maverick’s growth is driven by clients who return, stay connected, and bring others with them

    • The team becomes increasingly capable without everything depending on you

    • Sales, Internet, and Finance operate as one connected team, and Sales works cohesively with the rest of Maverick without walls or silos

    • The client experience actually improves as the business scales, rather than being diluted by growth

    • Recurring problems are solved at the root instead of repeatedly patched

    • Expectations are clear and accountability exists without creating a fear-based culture

    • Conversion, profitability, and sales volume grow sustainably

We aren’t looking for someone to simply help us sell more cars.

We’re looking for someone who can help build the organization that allows Maverick to grow significantly while becoming even better at what already makes us different.

Your success will ultimately be measured by the people, leaders, systems, growth, and client experience you build.

    Who We’re Looking For

We’re looking for an inspiring team builder and coach who’s also a strong strategist and operator.

    You should bring:

    • A proven track record of building and leading successful sales teams. We care more about what you’ve accomplished than simply how many years you’ve spent in the industry.

    • Exceptional coaching, teaching, and people-development ability, including developing other leaders

    • Strategic thinking across sales, process, training, organizational development, and client experience

    • Strong analytical instincts and the ability to use data, observation, and feedback to improve performance

    • Exceptional organization, prioritization, and follow-through

    • Strong communication and emotional intelligence, with the ability to balance care, accountability, and results

If your ideal role is running the traditional GSM playbook, this isn’t it.

We’re looking for someone who wants to develop exceptional people, solve hard problems, and help build an even stronger organization as Maverick grows.

    • Significant influence over the growth and direction of Maverick’s Sales organization
