Human Resources Professional 1 - Leave Manager

The Department of Administrative Services - Human Resources Enterprise (DAS-HRE) provides centralized human resources programs and services to State of Iowa agencies. We are currently seeking candidates for a position as a Human Resources Professional Leave Manager.

The mission of DAS-HRE is to support state agencies in their delivery of services to the people of Iowa by providing programs that recruit, develop, and retain a diverse and qualified workforce, and to administer responsible employee benefits programs for the members and their beneficiaries. DAS-HRE is comprised of Employment, Benefits, Organizational Performance, WorkSmart HCM, and Talent Development Bureaus.

This position will be based in the Leave Management area within the Department of Administrative Services in the Human Resource Enterprise. You will get to work with a team of five other individuals servicing the leaves area for the State of Iowa.

What Youll Do

  • Handle the FMLA leave administration process from the employee's initial notice of the need for leave to the release to return to work. This includes gathering and completing all required paperwork, determining leave eligibility, designating leave as FMLA-qualifying, requesting medical certification as needed, and accounting for intermittent and reduced schedule leave use.
  • Handle the leave administration process for FMLA and military leave. Maintain reasonable communication with managers and employees while employee is on leave.
  • Advise managers and employees on the interaction of leave laws; drafts and/or recommends revisions to company leave policies.
  • Maintain files and confidentiality.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelors degree.
  • A combination of a total of four years of education and full-time experience in technical or professional human resources work, where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work equals one year of full-time experience.
  • Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes three years of full-time work performing technical human resources work.
