Full Time Human Resources Generalist - Buffalo & Batavia Office
The Erie County Bar Association Volunteer Lawyers Project is seeking a full-time Human Resources Generalist for our law offices in Buffalo, NY and Batavia, NY. The Human Resources Generalist will support Human Resources operations with administrative and tactical responsibilities. This position has a strong emphasis on HR/Benefits administration, payroll processing, and staff support.
VLP is a mixed-model civil legal services program that coordinates direct representation by pro bono attorneys and by our staff attorneys in our two locations: Buffalo and Batavia, NY. The Buffalo office handles a wide variety of civil legal services, with a focus on involving pro bono lawyers in the delivery of our services to clients. The Batavia office provides immigration representation to individuals detained in the Federal Detention Facility in Batavia, NY.
This position will work out of both our Buffalo, NY and Batavia, NY offices with the ability to work on a hybrid remote/in-office schedule after the successful completion of the 90-day introductory period. Local travel is required. Hybrid work must be within 2 hours of Buffalo, NY.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Payroll & HRIS Administration- prepare biweekly payroll, review timesheets, resolve discrepancies, and ensure compliance with state and local laws.
- Benefits & Leaves Administration- administer employee benefits including medical, dental, vision, FSA/HRA, COBRA, and other benefits. Administer and document leaves of absence, tracking, and coordination with payroll and benefits.
- Recruiting & Onboarding Support- assist with the posting and hiring process, help onboard new hires.
- HR Operations and Staff Support- serve as an initial point of contact for employees, maintain employee files, support HR initiatives such as reviews, training, and wellness.
- Support continuous improvement in HR processes and employee experience.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience is required.
- 3-5 years of progressive HR experience with significant responsibility for payroll, benefits, and leave administration.
- Maintain current working knowledge of Federal, State, and Local employment laws and HR compliance requirements.
- PHR or SHRM-CP certification preferred.
Skills:
- The HR Generalist must maintain discretion and confidentiality.
- They must have excellent organizational skills, be able to multi-task, be able to work independently, and exercise judgement, while also working as part of a team.
- Ability to problem solve and see complex tasks through to completion.
- Excellent verbal and written skills.
- Ability to multitask and be flexible in an office with high volume that moves at a quick pace.
- VLP is a paperless office; candidates must be proficient with computers and technology, including Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Teams/SharePoint, and HRIS/Applicant Tracking systems (iSolved).
Salary/Benefits:
- Salary ranges from $65,000 - $75,000/year based on years of relevant work experience.

- Full time is 35-hours per week, working more is strongly discouraged.
