    Description

At Lightspeed Systems, we protect students and empower schools. We give district leaders the visibility and control they need to keep learning safe, secure, and effective -and we need an HR Business Partner who can roll up their sleeves, build scalable people practices, and show up as a true strategic partner to our Sales and Marketing teams.

This is not a "keep the lights on" HR role. You'll own the full HRBP relationship for two fast-moving, revenue-driving departments - and you'll be a key player in how we modernize and strengthen our People function from the ground up.

You'll be part strategist, part coach, part process architect, part trusted confidant - and 100% focused on making Lightspeed a place where great people do their best work.

NOTE: This position is hybrid and requires several days onsite each week at our Austin, Texas headquarters. Sponsorship is not available for this position.

    WHAT YOU'LL DO

    • Be a true partner. Own the HRBP relationship for both departments - sitting at the table with leaders, understanding their goals, and making sure our people practices support getting there. You'll be the go-to for workforce planning, recruitment, performance management, employee relations, and the hard conversations that need a skilled, empathetic hand.
    • Support the full employee lifecycle. From job posting to exit interview, show up as an engaged, consistent presence - conducting stay interviews, supporting managers through employee relations issues, and helping us build a culture people want to stay in. Make things work better. Identify inefficiencies in HR workflows and fix them. Whether it's automating an onboarding step, building a cleaner offboarding process, or designing a repeatable performance review workflow - you see process gaps as opportunities, not annoyances.
    • Use AI like it's part of your toolkit - because it should be. Actively use AI tools to do your job better: draft and refine job descriptions, analyze engagement trends, summarize exit interview themes, build scalable HR templates, and more. We're not asking you to be an engineer - we're asking you to be curious and current.
    • Help us build the infrastructure. We're actively improving how our HR function operates - systems, documentation, communication, and repeatability. You'll be a key contributor: helping us move from "we've always done it this way" to "here's the smarter, scalable version."

    WHAT YOU BRING

    • 3-5 years of HR experience, with meaningful time as an HRBP or in a generalist role with real business partner exposure
    • Demonstrated experience supporting sales and/or marketing teams - you understand the unique culture, pace, and compensation dynamics of a revenue-driving org
    • Working knowledge of sales compensation structures - variable pay, commission plans, quota design, and how they connect to motivation and retention
    • A process improvement mindset - you've looked at an HR workflow and rebuilt it, not just flagged it
    • Comfort with HR technology and genuine curiosity about AI - you're not waiting for a workshop to figure out how tools like ChatGPT, Copilot, or other AI platforms can make you sharper. You're also familiar with HRIS, ATS, Performance Management, and L&D platforms. Knowledge of Jira is a plus
    • Strong communication skills - you can simplify complex HR concepts for a skeptical sales manager, write a crisp policy, and navigate a difficult conversation with equal confidence
    • Self-starter energy - you don't need a detailed roadmap to make progress. You see what needs doing and you do it

    NICE-TO-HAVES

    • Edtech or SaaS background - if you already understand our world, you'll ramp faster and contribute sooner
    • Experience with HRIS platforms, ATS tools, and HR automation
    • Familiarity with building or overhauling HR processes in a scaling company
    • PHR or SHRM-CP certification, preferred

    WHY YOU'LL LOVE IT HERE

    • Your work will directly support the people who protect millions of students in classrooms every day - the mission is real, and it shows up in how we work.
    • You'll have a front-row seat to modernize and rebuild an HR function - with the autonomy to actually shape it.
    • You'll join a smart, driven, mission-focused team that cares deeply about both impact and each other.
