HSE & Facilities Operations Manager — Injection/Blow Molding

Advance a zero‑injury culture while sustaining flawless production in a high‑throughput plastics operation. As the HSE & Facilities Operations Manager, you architect the systems, lead the people, and govern the processes that keep our teams safe and our site compliant and efficient.

How you’ll make an impact

• Design and mature the site Environmental, Health & Safety program toward ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certification.
• Safeguard compliance and business continuity—set policies, procedures, and performance targets that realize world‑class safety.
• Conduct and facilitate risk assessments (JHA, PHA, machine guarding, LOTO, confined space, hot work, ergonomics, chemical handling) across injection/blow molding, extrusion, robotics, and supporting processes.
• Lead internal audits and management reviews; verify execution against contracts and company policy; ensure corrective actions stick.

Compliance & sustainability scope

• Own OSHA and EPA compliance and liaise with state/local agencies.
• Administer air permits, stormwater, hazardous waste, SPCC, EPCRA Tier II & Form R, and wastewater programs.
• Drive sustainability and utility stewardship—cut energy, water, and waste.
• Validate new machinery and workstations against internal and regulatory safety requirements before use.

People, training, and culture

• Chair the Safety Committee; scale behavioral‑based safety observations, safety talks, and near‑miss reporting.
• Investigate incidents with rigorous root‑cause methods; implement and verify corrective/preventive actions.
• Deliver targeted training: onboarding/orientation, LOTO, forklifts and cranes, hazmat, emergency response, contractor onboarding.
• Coordinate industrial hygiene monitoring (noise, dust, fumes) and communicate actions.
• Direct and develop 1 EHS/Facilities Coordinator.

Facilities & contractors

• Oversee third‑party contracts for utilities, building services, and grounds maintenance.
• Manage vendors for waste removal, pest control, security, janitorial, landscaping, and fire protection systems.
• Lead maintenance partners responsible for building repairs, fire and alarm systems, and HVAC, establishing preventive and predictive maintenance plans.
• Ensure adherence to building and fire codes and meet insurance requirements.

Metrics & reporting

• Maintain OSHA 300 log and dashboard leading/lagging indicators.
• Reduce TRIR and DART results through systematic improvement.
• Serve as primary contact for regulatory inspections, insurance audits, and corporate audits.
• Prepare and present monthly EHS and facilities performance updates to senior leadership.

Emergency readiness & care

• Coordinate emergency response teams, plans, and drills.
• Administer workers’ compensation and return‑to‑work programs.

Cross‑functional partners

Global Leadership Team; Department Managers and Supervisors; cross‑functional teams; internal and external customers.

Decision rights

Authority to act immediately on any matter that could endanger the health and safety of Mergon employees or others affected by our operations.

What you bring

• Proficiency in continuous improvement and Lean practices.
• Fluency with operational metrics and KPI management, including LTIR.
• Operational risk management and EHS leadership experience.
• Expertise in LOTO and strong root‑cause analysis capability.
• ISO 14001 implementation/maintenance experience.
