Qualifications
Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree.
Substitution of Experience for Education: Qualifying full-time professional or paraprofessional human resources experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of four years.

The mission of the Department of Health focuses on protecting, promoting, and improving the health and well-being of all individuals. It accomplishes this through disease prevention, community health services, emergency preparedness, and the regulation of health care professionals.
Within the Department of Health, the Division of Licensure and Regulation is responsible for ensuring quality of care in hospitals, nursing homes, ambulatory surgical treatment centers, and other kinds of health care facilities in Tennessee. The Office licenses and/or certifies 21 types of health care facilities, including laboratories.
Position Summary:
The HR Generalist 1 plays a vital role in supporting Tennessee state government's most valuable asset: its people. Working under the direction of the HR Director, this position supports the Department of Health's Division of Licensure and Regulation, delivering human resources services that combine hands-on transactional expertise with a genuine commitment to service, accuracy, and compliance.
This working-level role carries real responsibility from day one: preparing, processing, and maintaining a wide range of HR transactions and analyses that keep the division running smoothly. As part of the HR Generalist series, the position offers meaningful scope to build broad-based HR expertise, with a clear path toward the advanced, senior-level responsibilities of the HR Generalist 2 role as your experience grows.
