Position Overview

Varco Healthcare is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Hospice Quality Assurance (QA) Nurse to join our team. This is a full-time, in-office position working closely with our clinical and leadership teams to support quality, compliance, and documentation excellence across our hospice program.

The Hospice QA Nurse is responsible for reviewing clinical documentation completed by hospice clinicians to ensure accuracy, completeness, regulatory compliance, and adherence to Varco's clinical and quality standards.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in hospice care, understands Medicare hospice documentation and regulatory requirements, and has exceptional attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review hospice clinical documentation for accuracy, completeness, consistency, and regulatory compliance

  • Ensure documentation meets Medicare, state, accreditation, and company standards

  • Review nursing notes, assessments, plans of care, physician orders, and other clinical documentation

  • Review certification and recertification documentation for completeness and compliance

  • Verify documentation supports continued hospice eligibility and terminal prognosis

  • Review documentation related to IDG/IDT meetings and plans of care

  • Identify documentation deficiencies, inconsistencies, and compliance concerns

  • Provide clear and constructive feedback to clinicians regarding required corrections

  • Collaborate directly with Clinical Managers and hospice leadership to ensure corrections are completed accurately and timely

  • Monitor documentation trends and identify opportunities for clinician education and process improvement

  • Support ongoing QAPI, quality improvement, and compliance initiatives

  • Assist with preparation for state, Medicare, and accreditation surveys and audits

  • Promote ongoing survey readiness and compliance with hospice Conditions of Participation

  • Maintain patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance at all times

Qualifications

  • Active RN or LVN/LPN license required

  • Minimum of 2 years of hospice experience preferred

  • Strong knowledge of Medicare hospice regulations and documentation requirements

  • Experience reviewing hospice clinical documentation

  • Understanding of hospice eligibility, certifications/recertifications, plans of care, and IDG requirements

  • Strong critical-thinking and analytical skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines

  • Ability to work effectively in-office as part of a collaborative clinical team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous Hospice QA, Quality, Compliance, or Chart Review experience

  • Experience with Kinnser/WellSky or another hospice EMR

  • Experience preparing for state, CMS, or accreditation surveys

  • Familiarity with hospice quality measures, QAPI, and compliance processes
