    The Honors Program Assistant Director supports the operations of the University Honors Program under the Director. This position will include teaching in Honors each semester, possibly offering general education Honors versions of relevant classes as well as specially developed interdisciplinary seminars within the position holder's field of expertise. That field must include instruction within disciplines in or across the colleges of Arts and Sciences and/or Communication, Fine Arts, and Media. The teaching needs to be tailored to this group of students and requires innovative pedagogical engagement. (50% of role)

    The Honors Program Assistant Director will provide professional academic advising for Honors students, including assisting in the development of academic planning for students in all Honors pathways. The Assistant Director will monitor and assist in advising or directing students engaged in certain activities, such as internships or FUSE, and accordingly develop procedures and materials for students engaged in such areas. The Assistant Director will monitor retention and graduation rates, providing proactive, comprehensive, and exceptional guidance in overseeing re-enrollment and student progress to graduation, fostering student success, persistence and engagement while supporting students in their academic journeys. The Honors Program Assistant Director will thus need meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational skills; the person in this role uses good judgement and professionalism in sharing general information and giving directions as necessary. It is important that the candidate work efficiently and with a level of self-sufficiency. In this public-facing role, the Assistant Director may offer prospective students personalized guidance through recruiting events, meetings, and transcript evaluation, as well as promote the value of a 4-year degree and the UNO general education curriculum. Positive contributions to planning and attendance at events are expected. (45% of role)

    The Honors Program Assistant Director is an important support role to the Director and the Program.     Required and Preferred Qualifications

    Required Education

    Master's degree in disciplines within UNO's Colleges of Arts & Sciences or Fine Arts, Communication, and Media.

    Required Experience

    • Experience as a successful teacher of Honors students.
    • Experience in working with Honors students.
    • Experience mentoring or advising high-achieving students on their academic journeys.

    • Proven high quality teaching experience and expertise, preferably of Honors populations at the University level.
    • Familiarity with advising needs for high achieving students.
