    TITLE:

    General Ledger Accountant QUALIFICATIONS:

    Bachelor's Degree in accounting. Have 3 -5 years in governmental accounting experience. Have a significant understanding of accounting functions including accounts payable, general ledger maintenance, purchasing and payroll. Any equivalent experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Considerable knowledge of accepted theories and principles of accounting and methods of evaluating financial performance such as income statement preparation and analysis, variance analysis, and cost benefit analysis. Knowledge of School Board policies, Federal, and Local laws and regulations governing School Board business.     PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITY

    1.0 OPERATIONAL DUTIES

    1.1 Researches and extracts financial, accounting, and statistical data for analysis, and compiles financial and statistical data for analysis and for use in the preparation of the budget.

    1.2 Gathers information, prepares schedules and assists in the preparation of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.

    1.3 Assists auditors for the purpose of providing supporting documentation and/or information on internal processes that is required for audit.

    1.4 Provides guidance or technical direction to accounting, bookkeeping or clerical personnel in the department and in the school district; addresses employee operational issues.

    1.5 Examines School Board records and record-keeping procedures; communicates with representatives of other departments to identify areas where training in accounting procedures is needed; develops, presents, and assists in implementation of financial accounting policies and procedures.

    1.6 Responsible for setting up all new funds, accounts, departments, and locations in the accounting software program to ensure proper reporting.

    1.7 Prepares complex financial, statistical, and accounting statements and reports including, but not limited to, the Annual Financial Report for the Louisiana Department of Education. 1.8 Analyzes supporting documentation from outside sources and reconciles the information with the general ledger. 1.9 Prepare and post adjusting journal entries with references necessary to track a transaction (including its source) to provide a complete and accurate record of financial transactions for the school district.

    1.10 Prepare timely bank reconciliations.

    1.11 Design and produce various special and routine reports when needed by other co-workers or departments.

    1.12 Under limited supervision, performs technical accounting work at the professional level.

    1.13 Assists in planning, directing and administering the operations of the Business Office. 2.0 LEADERSHIP
