Senior FPGA Engineer
About the Opportunity
A leading technology-driven trading and research organization is seeking a Senior FPGA Engineer to join a highly collaborative engineering team responsible for building ultra-low latency hardware systems that directly support mission-critical trading infrastructure. This role sits at the intersection of hardware engineering, software development, and quantitative problem solving, offering the opportunity to work on performance-sensitive systems where speed, efficiency, and reliability are paramount.
Rather than operating within strict organizational silos, engineers are empowered to take ownership of solutions throughout the entire development lifecycle. You will collaborate closely with software engineers, researchers, and other technical stakeholders to design, implement, test, and optimize FPGA-based systems that address complex real-time challenges.
This position is ideal for engineers who enjoy solving difficult performance bottlenecks, working on cutting-edge hardware platforms, and driving measurable impact through innovative engineering.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with software developers, researchers, and technical teams to translate business and system requirements into hardware solutions.
- Define FPGA architectures and contribute to hardware platform selection and system design decisions.
- Design, develop, simulate, test, and deploy FPGA-based solutions for high-performance environments.
- Work across the full hardware stack, from board-level integration through software-facing interfaces.
- Optimize existing hardware implementations to improve latency, throughput, and overall system performance.
- Participate in both long-term strategic initiatives and fast-paced development efforts with rapid iteration cycles.
- Support deployment, troubleshooting, and ongoing enhancements in production environments.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in FPGA or ASIC architecture, design, and development.
- Strong expertise with VHDL, Verilog, and/or SystemVerilog.
- Proven experience building complex digital systems for performance-critical applications.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with high-speed communication protocols and interfaces such as Ethernet and PCIe.
- Familiarity with software development in languages such as C, C++, Java, or C#.
- Experience optimizing systems for low-latency, real-time, or high-throughput environments.
- Exposure to financial technology, market infrastructure, networking, telecommunications, aerospace, defense, or other performance-driven industries.
Environment
The organization combines advanced technology, quantitative research, and large-scale engineering to solve complex real-world problems. Teams are composed of engineers, researchers, and technical specialists who work together in a highly collaborative setting focused on innovation, experimentation, and continuous improvement.
Engineers are given significant ownership and autonomy, with opportunities to influence architecture, contribute to strategic initiatives, and work on technology that operates at the highest levels of performance.
Why Apply?
- Work on cutting-edge FPGA and hardware acceleration technology.
- Solve challenging low-latency and high-performance engineering problems.
- Collaborate with highly skilled engineers, developers, and researchers.
- Own solutions from concept through production deployment.
- Make a direct impact on mission-critical systems and business outcomes.
