PGS Worldwide is seeking a Flight Simulator Hardware Engineer for a one year contract-to-hire role supporting a leading aerospace & defense company. The engineer will join a development team delivering an FAA Level D Full Flight Simulator and will be responsible for hardware design, development, and integration activities. This role will also lead other Hardware Engineers and coordinate with engineering, procurement, production planning, manufacturing, and suppliers.
Required Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or related field.
- Experience developing flight simulation hardware solutions.
- Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical design engineering principles, industry practices, and related disciplines.
- Experience issuing formal design checking approvals or non-conformance reports through a PLM tool.
- Experience developing CREO layouts and detailed drawings for ICDs, components, sub-assemblies, assemblies, and integration test articles.
- Experience developing hardware architectural layouts for system and lower-level interfaces between systems and subsystems.
- Ability to derive hardware and sub-tier requirements from customer requirements.
- Experience building BOMs and creating parts, assemblies, and design documentation.
- Ability to support cross-functional teams through technical reviews, including SRR, PDR, CDR, and TRR.
- Experience applying Hardware Engineering processes in an Agile environment.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Windchill, Creo, Catia, Zuken, or Cameo.
- Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing in accordance with ASME Y14.5 and complex system-level tolerance analysis.
- Experience generating hardware architecture, high-level interconnects, and deriving requirements from customer and system-level flow-downs.
- Experience developing, integrating, and deploying flight training systems.
- Experience with Agile development of software-intensive systems and related Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Hardware, and Test Engineering work products.
- Experience adapting hardware designs to existing climate control systems for temperature/humidity stability.
- Experience interfacing with existing fire detection and suppression infrastructure.
- Product design experience with modular open systems architectures.
- Experience with rotary-wing and/or fixed-wing aircraft.
- Experience with full-motion simulators.
What You’ll Do
- Design and develop hardware for power and control systems, motion platform integration, visual display systems, avionics interfaces, and ancillary equipment.
- Integrate new simulator hardware with existing building infrastructure, including HVAC, electrical distribution, grounding, and fire and smoke monitoring systems.
- Lead Hardware Engineers and synchronize engineering, procurement, production planning, manufacturing, and supplier activities.
- Develop innovative solutions to complex problems consistent with program objectives.
- Support hardware development and integration throughout the acquisition lifecycle.
- Obtain a security clearance after converting to a full-time employee.
