Overview

We are seeking a Life Safety Systems / Fire Alarm Construction Administration (CA) Engineer to support data center and mission-critical facility projects. This position will have a strong focus on construction administration, including job-site support, punch walks, witness testing, troubleshooting, and design assistance.

The Engineer will also support life safety and fire alarm system design and drawing production and may manage several concurrent projects. Candidates may be located anywhere in the United States, although proximity to a U.S.-based office is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide construction administration support for life safety and fire alarm systems, including:
    • Site visits and field support
    • Punch walks
    • Witness testing
    • Design assistance and troubleshooting
  • Provide technical design leadership for systems including:
    • Fire alarm and detection systems
    • Smoke control systems
    • Fire protection and suppression systems
    • Gas detection systems
    • Life safety and other low-voltage systems
  • Support projects throughout the design process, including preliminary assessments, concept development, detailed design, drawing production, and specifications.
  • Lead designs with support from subject matter experts, BIM designers, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Develop code-compliant fire mitigation, asset protection, and life safety solutions.
  • Interface directly with clients, vendors, contractors, and state/local code officials.
  • Prepare calculations, equipment sizing and quantities, construction specifications, network diagrams, and other project deliverables.
  • Support development of constructible designs using both 2D and 3D design platforms.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects and help ensure deliverables are completed on schedule.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior team members while collaborating with senior design professionals.
  • Take ownership of assigned projects and responsibilities as Engineer of Record, as applicable.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • Knowledge and design experience with fire alarm systems and related manufacturers’ equipment, including VESDA systems.
  • Field experience installing, inspecting, or testing fire alarm systems.
  • Familiarity with fire alarm equipment from:
    • Notifier
    • Edwards
    • Xtralis
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including:
    • IBC
    • IFC
    • NFPA 101 – Life Safety Code
    • NFPA 72 – Fire Alarm and Signaling Code
    • NFPA 70 – National Electrical Code (NEC)
  • Knowledge of general engineering design and construction specifications.
  • Experience leading projects and managing resources.
  • Ability to travel a minimum of 25% to project/job-site locations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 4+ years of Autodesk Revit design experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Knowledge of:
    • NFPA 75
    • NFPA 76
    • NFPA 2001
    • NFPA 13
  • Previous data center design experience.
  • Experience mentoring junior staff.
  • Experience estimating and scheduling mid- to large-scale projects.

Additional Information

The primary focus of this position will be construction administration services, with the remainder of the Engineer’s time supporting design and drawing production.

The position offers a hybrid working environment, with work split between offices/project locations and remote work based on project requirements.
