Field Operations Manager - Smart Home, Security & AV Systems (NYC)

Company: Our client is a boutique, HTA Platinum Certified technology integrator specializing in smart home automation, audio/video, security, access control, surveillance, networking, and related low-voltage systems for select residential and commercial clients.

Location: New York City - on-site, daily presence required

Reports to: Owner / CTO

Salary: $90,000-$115,000 base, depending on experience

ABOUT THE ROLE

Our client is seeking an experienced, hands-on Field Operations Manager to lead day-to-day field execution for NYC projects and service work. You will coordinate technicians, maintain installation quality, manage site activity and documentation, and keep active work moving forward professionally and efficiently.

This is a field leadership role for someone who is technically capable, organized, proactive, comfortable on active construction sites, and willing to work hands-on when needed.

WHAT YOU'LL OWN

• Daily supervision, coordination, and support of field technicians

• Conducting site surveys for new installations and retrofit work; documenting field conditions and developing accurate scope, labor, and material requirements to support proposals, budgets, and change-order review

• Managing multiple active projects and service priorities concurrently; maintaining schedules and communicating changes promptly

• Serving as the primary field-level point of contact for clients, contractors, and other trades on active work

• Attending site meetings and leading routine field and client check-ins

• Identifying, documenting, and promptly escalating scope changes for leadership review and approval

• Coordinating equipment and material needs to keep installations on schedule

• Overseeing installation quality, jobsite organization, project documentation, and as-built accuracy

• Maintaining timely daily field records, notes, and photos

• Performing quality checks before client turnover and leading system training and final walkthroughs

• Overseeing field-related service and support work; coordinating priorities, follow-up, field dispatch, and escalation with the programming and technical-support team

• Mentoring technicians and helping develop a strong, accountable field culture

• Managing project tools, supplies, and inventory

• Providing hands-on installation, wiring, troubleshooting, and technical support when required

• Maintaining safe worksites and ensuring work follows company standards, applicable codes, and site requirements

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

• 5-10+ years of hands-on experience in smart home, AV, security, access control, surveillance, networking, structured cabling, or related low-voltage systems

• Strong practical knowledge of jobsite operations, installation standards, system troubleshooting, and field coordination

• Experience leading technicians, crews, or installation activity on active projects

• Ability to read and work from floor plans, elevations, device layouts, wire schedules, and related construction documents

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including professional follow-up emails and field documentation

• Confidence working with general contractors, clients, vendors, and other trades while maintaining appropriate scope boundaries

• Strong judgment, follow-through, organization, and attention to detail

• Resourceful, proactive problem-solving skills; comfortable researching manuals, contacting vendors, and finding answers independently

• Comfortable using email, Microsoft Office or Google Workspace, cloud-based files, and mobile tools for schedules and field documentation

• Willingness to work hands-on when the project requires it

• Reliable, punctual, and based in or near New York City

• High school diploma or GED required; technical training, an associate degree, relevant industry certifications, or a bachelor's degree is a plus. Equivalent relevant field experience will be strongly considered.

• Must be able to pass the required New York State security background check.

• Must obtain an SST Supervisor Card within 30 days of employment.
