Field Engineer, Self Perform

The Self Perform Mechanical Field Engineer is the technical bridge between the field, Project Managers, and Design. This role ensures self-perform mechanical work matches design intent and work package requirements through layout, constructability, RFIs, as-builts, and engineering coordination. Work package development, maintenance, and follow-through are essential: the Field Engineer partners with PMs to build packages, keep them current as conditions change, and close gaps with Superintendents, GFs, and Foremen so crews always work from accurate, executable information. This role will be Reno local and will require travel to multiple job sites throughout the Reno Region.

• Serve as the day-to-day technical link between Superintendents, General Foremen, Foremen, Project Managers, and design/engineering on assigned Reno regional scopes
• Maintain work packages as living documents that contain the following: Layout Data, Bill of Materials, P&IDs, and any other construction required information while maintaining the document by: updating for design changes, RFI outcomes, field conditions, and sequence shifts; follow through after issue so packages reach the field complete and understood
• Validate work package quantities against field layout and installed conditions; support alignment with assigned task codes and change order quantity verification while supporting Superintendents and GFs with drawing interpretation and detail clarification; translate P&IDs, ISOs, BIM, and shop drawings into field-installable direction
• Walk active areas for constructability issues; document conflicts and escalate to the PM with recommended paths forward by generating RFIs with sketches and redlines for design conflicts and scope gaps; support the PM RFI process through resolution and field execution
• Lead or support BIM/coordination clash resolution in the field; participate in site walks and design coordination meetings with PMs, capture redlines and as-built markups, including P&IDs, and 2D drawings, during installation and maintain as-built discipline through turnover
• Coordinate with design/engineering on submittal and shop drawing technical review; support pressure test and commissioning activities with technical documentation
• Coordinate with QC on hold points requiring dimensional verification; consult on Method of Procedure (MOP) generation for complex system work
• 2+ years of field engineering, construction engineering, VDC/BIM field support, or mechanical layout experience on industrial or large commercial projects or other demonstration of excellence
• Hands-on experience developing or maintaining construction work packages, IFC packages, or equivalent field execution documents from development through field follow-through
• Strong technical writing skills for RFIs, sketches, redlines, and coordination correspondence between field, PMs, and design and ability to read and interpret P&IDs, isometric drawings, mechanical plans, and BIM models and assist field teams with interpretation
• Constructability mindset: ability to identify conflicts, access issues, and design gaps before they stop work
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and PDF markup tools (bluebeam revu preferred); BIM coordination experience (Navisworks, Revit, or equivalent) is a plus
• Ability to work primarily on-site, walk active construction areas, and travel between multiple Reno Region job sites on 10-12 hour field environments
• Mechanical, industrial, or process construction experience (piping, ductwork, equipment, supports) preferred. OSHA 10 a plus; bachelor s degree in mechanical, construction, or industrial engineering (or equivalent field experience) preferred
