    East Texas A&M- Commerce Department of Counseling

    Title: Pay Bi-Weekly/Hourly

    Important:

    Total number of hours to be worked per week cannot exceed 19 hours while taking classes (if employed by multiple departments, the total combined must not exceed 19 hours). Student workers may work full-time during interim periods (between semesters) and during the summer. Position is paid bi-weekly and must earn no less than $7.25 per hour.

    SUMMARY:

    The Student Worker for The Department of Counseling will provide timely and professional responses received by phone, email, or in-person from students, their families, the community, and other constituents who inquire about the steps to enrollment. The Department of Counseling Student Worker delivers excellent customer service and maintains familiarity with Texas A&M University System, and procedures while ensuring integrity and effective utilization of data for student information and determining access rights to such information, understanding University, and external (e.g., FERPA) policies.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Identify between three and eight primary duties and responsibilities for the position. List the primary duties and responsibilities in order of importance. Begin each statement with an action verb. Examples of duties and responsibilities listed below:

    • Assist with answering telephones, faxing, filing correspondence, running errands on campus, stuffing envelopes and making copies.
    • Greet office guests, answer questions and direct to the proper individual(s).
    • Greet students and their guests and swipe them in before allowing entry into a residence hall.
    • Maintain documents and spreadsheets.
    • Provide quality customer service.
    • Collaborate and communicate with supervisor.
    • Coordinate the maintenance of files, records, office supplies, and equipment. On occasion, may be responsible for communications either in writing or in person during meetings.
    • Contribute to the overall success of the Counseling Department by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: - Must have work-study permit, issued by Financial Aid, for current semester.

    • Experience / Knowledge / Skills: The ability to operate and troubleshoot electronic office equipment, computers, and peripherals is required. Effective verbal and written communication skills are required.
    • Education: Must be active student for Texas A&M University - Commerce. Student can be an undergrad or graduate level.
    • Knowledge / Skills: Punctual. Good computer skills (for example Microsoft Word or Excel) and use of programs like OneDrive, GoogleDrive, etc. Ability to actively use social media platforms to showcase the Department of Counseling.
    • Ability to: Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Ability to handle confidential matters and to be professional. Ability to work well with groups of people. Multitask and work cooperatively with others. Work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality. Organize and set priorities, maintain records, interpret and prepare reports and compose memoranda and letters.
    • Physical Requirements: Ability to sit for extended periods during scheduled shifts.
