Position Summary: Vanguard University is looking for an outstanding nurse-educator would relish leading our Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, a role which includes teaching and mentoring in a warm and diverse community of people who are serious about following Jesus Christ. The BSN Program Chair is a full-time faculty member who teaches Medical-Surgical Nursing and provides day-to-day operational leadership for our BSN pre-licensure program. The Chair supports high-quality instruction, student progression and success, faculty coordination, and operational excellence. The role ensures ongoing compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards and advances Vanguard’s mission through academic excellence, service, and Christian commitment. Essential Functions: BSN Program Operational Leadership - Provide daily coordination of BSN program operations, ensuring consistent execution of program policies, schedules, and processes.
- Oversee course scheduling, clinical and lab coordination (in collaboration with clinical placement coordinator), faculty teaching assignments, and coverage plans.
- Maintain program readiness for regulatory and accreditation expectations by supporting documentation, compliance tracking, and continuous quality improvement.
- Coordinate student progression processes (e.g., progression checkpoints, remediation pathways, retention supports) in alignment with program policies.
- Monitor key student outcomes and help implement improvement plans.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for day-to-day student issues requiring program-level coordination; escalate complex matters to the Director as appropriate.
- Support admissions, orientation, and student communication workflows in collaboration with Admissions and Student Services.
- Reports to the Director of Nursing
Faculty and Course Coordination - Lead BSN faculty operational coordination (e.g., course lead meetings, exam/assessment coordination, clinical evaluation consistency).
- Promote consistency across sections in course delivery, grading practices, clinical evaluation tools, and student communication.
- Support onboarding and mentoring of new and adjunct faculty; coordinate peer support, teaching resources, and compliance training.
Curriculum and Assessment Support - Support implementation of the BSN curriculum, including alignment of course objectives, learning activities, clinical experiences, and program outcomes.
- Participate in curriculum review and revision processes, including mapping to professional standards and Essentials/QSEN as used by the program.
Teaching Responsibilities (Medical-Surgical Nursing) - Teach assigned undergraduate Medical-Surgical Nursing didactic and/or clinical/lab sections, as determined by program need.
- Develop and deliver instruction using evidence-based teaching strategies and active learning methodologies.
- Contribute to simulation and skills development activities when assigned, collaborating with the Simulation Coordinator.
Minimum Qualifications: - Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited institution (or higher).
- Active, unencumbered California RN license (or eligibility to obtain).
- Minimum of two (2) years of recent clinical experience in medical-surgical nursing (or closely related adult health area).
- Prior teaching experience in nursing education (academic or staff development), with demonstrated effectiveness.
- Demonstrated organizational and leadership skills, including ability to coordinate complex schedules and operational workflows.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Commitment to student success and the mission and values of Vanguard University.
Preferred Qualifications: - Doctoral degree (DNP, PhD, EdD) in Nursing or related field.
- Prior experience in program leadership (course lead, program coordinator, chair/coordinator, assistant director).
- Experience with simulation-based education and clinical evaluation frameworks.
SALARY Full-time position. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience. Highly qualified candidates may be considered for an appointment to an endowed professorship with additional compensation. Assistant Professor: $60,595 to $81,501 Associate Professor: $70,676 to $95,190 Professor: $82,031 to $113,974 Placement at appropriate rank (e.g., Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) and initial salary is dependent upon education, experience, and based on Vanguard’s faculty compensation schedule. The upper range is reserved for candidates that demonstrate the highest level of proficiency within a particular rank. Vanguard University also offers a very competitive and generous benefits package. Vanguard offers both tenure track and term faculty contracts; the type of contract offered will be determined based on the candidate’s qualifications at the time of hire. In recognition of the current market demand for nursing faculty, a discipline-based market adjustment may be applied to the base salary.
