Description
The Facilities Associate plays a vital hands-on role in maintaining The Sixth Floor Museum's physical spaces, ensuring they are clean, safe, functional, welcoming, and sustainable for visitors, staff, and collections. Reporting to the Head of Facilities and Assistant Head of Facilities, this position supports daily facility operations, preventive maintenance, safety protocols, and minor repairs. This role contributes to a positive visitor experience while helping advance the museum's goals of operational efficiency, environmental sustainability, and accessibility in both in-person and hybrid programming environments.
Essential Responsibilities:
Required Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate's degree or technical certification in facilities maintenance, building systems, or a related field is preferred.
Experience: 1-3 years of hands-on experience in facilities maintenance, janitorial services, building operations, or general maintenance. Experience in a museum, cultural institution, hospitality, or public venue is highly desirable. Basic knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or carpentry is a plus.
Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and lift/carry up to 50 lbs regularly. Must be comfortable working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions and navigating stairs, galleries, and tight spaces. Ability to work at heights or in confined areas occasionally.
Preferred Certifications: OSHA 10-hour safety training, CPR/First Aid, or any facilities-related certifications. Willingness to obtain relevant certifications is encouraged
Compensation and Benefits:
This position is full-time and non-exempt. Compensation is commensurate with experience and aligned with internal compensation structure. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off.
