Job Title: Environmental Services Leader
Job Description
This leadership role focuses on building, managing, and growing environmental and construction services operations in the Charlotte or Raleigh market. The position leads a diverse portfolio of environmental projects, including Brownfields redevelopment, environmental site assessments, due diligence, and waste management services, while driving strategic growth and maintaining strong client relationships across multiple sectors.
Responsibilities
- Lead and grow environmental and construction services operations in the Charlotte or Raleigh market, with a focus on expanding regional practice and service offerings.
- Manage and execute a wide range of environmental projects, including Brownfields redevelopment and assessment, Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), and due diligence services for developers and institutional clients.
- Oversee industrial, hazardous waste, and solid waste projects, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
- Plan and manage asbestos and lead-based paint inspections and management activities, maintaining high standards of safety and quality.
- Conduct and manage Underground Storage Tank (UST) assessments as needed, ensuring accurate evaluation and regulatory compliance.
- Serve as project manager and team leader, overseeing staff, project budgets, schedules, and deliverables to ensure high-quality outcomes.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships with developers, school systems, higher education institutions, architects, engineers, and municipal and county agencies.
- Identify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities to build and maintain a diverse project backlog and drive revenue growth.
- Balance operations, project delivery, and business development responsibilities to support sustainable growth of the practice.
- Collaborate closely with regional teams, including established Southeast operations, to leverage internal resources and expertise.
- Contribute to strategic planning for the regional environmental practice, including market expansion and diversification of service lines.
- Ensure all projects meet quality standards, regulatory requirements, and client expectations, while promoting continuous improvement.
- Mentor and develop staff, fostering a collaborative, high-performance team culture.
- Engage in professional and business development organizations to enhance visibility, strengthen networks, and support practice growth.
Essential Skills
- Approximately 15 years of experience in the environmental consulting field is preferred, though candidates with fewer years of experience may be considered based on overall qualifications.
- At least 10 years of experience in environmental consulting or related fields, with progressive responsibility.
- Proven track record of environmental department or office management and revenue growth.
- Demonstrated success in Brownfields and redevelopment projects, including assessment and implementation.
- Strong technical expertise in due diligence, industrial and hazardous waste, environmental compliance, and related environmental services.
- Experience managing complex projects, multidisciplinary teams, and client relationships across multiple sectors.
- Proven experience working with developers and institutional clients, including public and private entities.
- Ability to balance operational management, project delivery, and business development responsibilities effectively.
- Professional licensure as a PG (Professional Geologist), PE (Professional Engineer), CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager), or similar credential.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to influence and guide teams and stakeholders.
- Well-established professional network within the environmental industry, particularly in North Carolina or the broader Southeast region.
- Deep understanding of client types and market sectors relevant to environmental consulting, with the ability to expand or diversify target markets.
- Ability to thrive in a build-and-grow environment, taking initiative to shape and expand a regional practice.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Active involvement in professional and business development organizations to support networking and market visibility.
- Established network within the North Carolina or Southeast environmental market is strongly preferred.
- Experience collaborating with architects, engineers, school systems, higher education institutions, and public agencies.
- Comfort working across multiple environmental disciplines, including Brownfields, due diligence, industrial and hazardous waste, environmental compliance, solid waste, and UST-related services.
- Capability to identify alternative market sectors to grow the department and diversify the project portfolio.
- Versatility in managing a diverse portfolio of environmental services, from assessments to redevelopment and compliance-focused projects.
Work Environment
The role is based in the Charlotte, NC area (preferred) or Raleigh, NC, and the candidate should be local to either market. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $115000.00 - $170000.00/yr.
